I have a Logitech MX700 that would often have problems where all the buttons on the mouse would stop functioning after some random period of usage (usually a few hours to a day.) I doubt I am the only person who had this problem as I encountered it on two different Macs, and two different MX700's purchased at different stores almost 2 months apart. Unplugging and re-plugging the base station from the USB would get the buttons working again but I was getting really tired of crawling around behind my computer 2-3 times a day.
I just noticed a few days ago that Logitech has a new version of their driver out. Even though their changelog mentions nothing about bugfixes (it was supposedly just additional localizations) it seems to have fixed the problem. I haven't had the mouse buttons stop working in the week or so that I have had the drivers installed and that is about 2 days longer than it has ever worked at a stretch before. So, knock on wood, I think they fixed it.
Just thought I would FYI in case anyone else is suffering the same probs I was having.

I've been using my MX700 for 4 months now and have not had such problems ever since switching drivers. Maybe it's the driver? I stopped using Logitech's LCC driver because it can't remember button functions per application and my buttons died occasionally. I've been using USB Overdrive and the only incident I ever had was forgetting to put it on its cradle for 4 days resulting in a dead battery. Charged it for 10 minutes and the thing was back and kicking again.
If things act up again, before you go and try different drivers, try using a different USB port? Sometimes using a main port is different versus a hub or keyboard port or whatever. Don't know why. Also, if it ever becomes unresponsive again, instead of unplugging, have you tried pressing the "connect" button either on the mouse or on the cradle? That's what I used to do when I was running LCC and the buttons wouldn't work.

Thanks for the reply. I actually did try different ports, plugging directly into the computer, into a hub, what-have-you. I also tried the connect button trick. I think it was almost certainly a driver bug since their newer version doesn't seem to have the problem (at least not yet..)
I tried to install USB overdrive in an attempt to work around the problem. Unfortunately, I have one of those Logitech keyboards with all the extra buttons and the option keys which don't work if you don't have the LCC installed. Having LCC installed for that seemed to keep USB Overdrive from working with the mouse. And even if UO had worked for the keyboard too I wouldn't have relished programming what all those buttons on this thing are supposed to do..
I would like to be able to modify my ballistics though. I really dislike Logitech's presets. WHY wont they let us change them?? Maybe I'll just buy a new keyboard one of these days.

I've never even had a minor hiccup with my MX700 and USB OD. I don't use the logitech SW. I also installed higher capacity recachargables too.
My MX700 is normally either plugged into my macally icekey kbd or into my Cinema display. At one point it was connected directly to one of the USB ports on the back of the tower and that was fine too.
Sorry to hear you are having problems. This mouse is awesome. I don't like cords.
