I'm from Dominican Republic, a Caribbean island, and I was wondering if could use El Gato's EyeTV here. I have cable TV with many US channels (ABC, NBC, Fox, and others)

I don't see why not. Just set it to autotune and it should recognize any valid cable stations. Be sure to back up your existing .plist file before traveling, so that you can replace it when you return. That's where the station info is stored.
as an add on, is there anything useful in the 1.2 update? There havnt been any updates for awhile, and it seems like this one is pretty useless as far as I can tell...
It doesn't see to be any value added features for US users. It didn't wake up this morning for a show, so that feature is still not very reliable. It does seem "snappier" scrolling through the Programs window.
