Intelligent Stick

The official site's a bit dodgy (note the badly manipulated iPod in the middle of this page), so, to find out more about it, see this eBay auction.

I'm thinking of buying one but would like to hear what others think of it first.

Anyone used it? Thoughts? Experiences?

sounds like re-inventing the wheel. USB drives are getting even cheaper at about a buck a meg on avg. and the USB 2.0 is cool. I think they have high hopes for it that will never work out. I really don't want a big (or small) purple stick on the side of my phone or pda or ipod. I mean how crazy is that. "I have a 20gig plus 128MB iPod."

with bluetooth and 802 becoming more and more widely used, having a USB drive just for transferring seems like a not so worth wild idea.

Also with files getting bigger and bigger 128MB or even 512MB is a bit to much money for the space.

However I do have a 128MB USB drive I got from fry's for $49 that I use to store text files and website files on to take to another computer... only when the other computer is a PC or when I don't want to answer question about my iPod.

"Badly manipulated" is right! They just took a stock iPod picture, and pasted a little "Intelligent Stick" next to it. Same with the Palm Tungsten. A 2-year old trained monkey could have done that. It could make a good video game memory card, though (as demonstrated by their Dreamcast picture cleverly titled "Game".

I think they mean it will fit all the way into the MP3 player (although most certainly not an iPod). I don't think it is supposed to stick out the side, although the picture makes it look that way.

If I were you I'd stay away from this product. Those pictures on their site, although quite funny, makes me question their reputation. They are far too optimistic as to where their product will end up. There are already so many flash memory formats out there (MMC/SD, XD, etc.) I doubt any companies will be racing to adopt a format such as this.

Secondly, I wouldnt be suprised if you snapped the thing if you accidently bump up against it and then you would have to worry about having a piece of the end stuck inside your USB port. I think you might be better off getting a regular USB drive.
Are those free-ranged animal crackers?

Since I don't actually need the thing, I decided not to buy it in the end.

The reason I liked it was that it is the same size as a Sony memory stick, smaller even, and I like small things. But, I have a 60GB FireWire drive, and until I go back to university, that will more than do for transferring files between my own iBook and that of my girlfriend. Only real advantage at present would have been not having to plug it in.

Come September, I shall look into these things again.

Thanks all.
