My tree week old 20 gb hard drive just stopped in mid-track. It's completely frozen!

Yikes, there's something that may help it, however.

First, trying RESETTING it.

Then, try running DIAGNOSTIC MODE and see if it'll revive itself.

The instructions on how to reset & run Diagnostics are in the links...good luck!

Thanks very much. I reset it and tried the diagnostics but no codes came up. Anyway, it seems to work now. What on earth caused this to happen?

In any case, thanks for saving me a trip to the Apple Store (unless it does it again)!

Aha! this may be the reason, perhaps? I forgot to disconnect the pod before I went to bed last night. The computer is set to sleep after 1.5 hours. Apple says that might cause the iPod to freeze up.

The odd thing is that it didn't freeze until 20 minutes later while was playing music. Strange.

Yep, I'd say that's probably the problem! Dunno why it waited 20 mins. to give you a problem, though.

Well, at least it's back to working again! Phew!

could be that it was playing mp3s from memory and froze when it attempted to load new songs.

That seems to make sense. Anyway so far (touch wood) it hasn't done it again.

Great! Hopefully that was the case, it certainly sounds that way. Hope it keeps working right!

OK, it has just done it twice more. This time it wasn't connected to any issue of sleeping.

Both times it just locked up. None of the controls work but the drive seems to keep spinning (it gets quite warm). Rebooting fixes it but the question is for how long.

Is there a problem with my iPod? Alternatively, is there a bug in 1.2.6?
