I'm surprised no one has mentioned problems hotsyncing these pda's under 10.2.3+. I was considering pda's like these (leaning toward the more affordable m515), but have been reluctant to jump in because I see so much discussion on Apple's own boards about folks who haven't been able to hotsync since 10.2.3. Are those idiosyncratic problems? Are most of you syncing without problems with these various pda's? I'd love virtually any of these things but won't cough up the $ unless I know syncing is pretty reliable. (I use iBook with 10.2.5).

So I got my hands on a Palm Zire 71 the first day it come out. I was unimpressed. First off for 300 you do get a great color screen, a fast processor, and Palm OS 5. But thats where my love ended. First off the camera was a waste of time. It adds a substancial ammount of size to the PDA and weight. Also, Palm could havedropped the price up to a $100 if it excluded the camera. That or they could have added wireless. When will the PDA market start to listen and add wireless to its consumer PDAs. The Stylus that was included was still the same plastic little thing Palm always includes. Also, no screen cover built in.

This is just want I think, some of my friends thought it was great and want to upgrade, meanwhile my two room mates and I all have been using Handspring Edges. Honestly the Edge was one of the best PDA ever made. It was small, lightweight, got a great battery life, had a metal feel to it, and its stylus was also metal like. Than again, for $300 an iPod will hold all your contacts and schedules, but lacks the ability to add stuff on the go.

Just my 2 cents. Honestly, if you really want a camera to play with, go out and buy the Zire 71. Or just buy a real camera for $200 and a cheap PDA (Edges go really cheap on eBay these days).

Really? You need to look at what else is on the market as you don't seem to know what you are taling about.

The Sony SJ33 that just came out is the same size and has NO CAMERA and runs Palm OS 4.1 and a so so screen. It costs more then the Zire 71.

The Tunsten C has biult in wireless and many other PDA's on the market do also.

For the money, the Zire 71 is a steal!

Welp, I caved in! Palm owes you one Severed Hand of Skywalker!

Last night I went ahead and ordered my first PDA: the Palm Tungsten C. It retails for $499, but I got it for $428 + shipping from www.shopperwiz.com (best price I could find). I also ordered a 256MB SecureDigital MediaCard to go in it from Amazon.com as they had the SanDisk 256MB SD cards for only $58 w/ free shipping. I also picked up a swank PDA case from Amazon.com while I was there...now the wait begins! I'm thrilled to have stumbled upon this...I'm so anxious to put it to work!

And my mother will be asking her boss today if the company will pick up the tab for her to get a PDA for her "work-use"...a Tungsten C as well! So hopefully that'll go through, and both mom & son will have Tungsten C's! My mom's still learning in the tech-world, and it's awesome to have her so interested in this stuff as well!

Again, thanks "Severed Hand of Skywalker"! I'll be sure to post impressions, pictures, and how well it works with everything when it arrives!

Do yourself a favor and send that Sandisk card back. People have nothing but trouble with sandisk for some reason. They'll randomly go bad and you'll lose all your stuff. Plus they have absymal write speeds. Spend a little more money and get a Lexar.

Hmm...well they have a return policy, so if the need arrives, I'll put it to use.

Ahhh, very nice comparison pics! That Zire71 is beautiful! I've got an iPod as well (2G 10GIG) and just bought my girlfriend a Platinum GameBoy Advance (the Metroid Fusion game is great!) and I hope to be posting pics of my Tungsten C soon as well!

Sweet!! I just checked the shipping status and it says my Tungsten C has already been delivered!

So as soon as I leave from school in 4 minutes I get to play w/ my new toy! Later on tonight or possibly tomorrow I'll be posting impressions and such. Huge kudos to www.shopperwiz.com; ordered early Monday morning, shipping Monday afternoon by Ground Service, and received on Wednesday afternoon...quite impressive! Meanwhile my 256MB SecureDigital card still hasn't shipped from Amazon, however I should be able to make do until it arrives. ...Heading home now to open it up! Joy!

Oh well Yoda, so much for technological convergence . Do you carry those four around with you? I carry a phone and Tungsten, and thats enough for me. at least you don't have to carry a separate camera with you when you have the Zire 71.

Anyway, joking aside, I look at pictures like that, see the four boxes, and think "Why cant that be one box?". Even if you paid the price of a desktop computer for it (eMac prices, say) carrying a combined box that was your phone, PDA, MP3, handheld game console and backup hard drive would sell loads. Makers are getting there (iPod MP3 and semi PDA address book; Nokia N-Gage phone, console, MP3 and semi address book; loads of Palm OS phones, in the USA anyway ; PDA's that play games and MP3's; camera phones) but they still haven't come up with the all in one handheld.

PS, my phone is a Nokia 3310, just over one year old, when it gets replaced, whatever the new one is WILL have Bluetooth, so I can do something useful with it besides syncing when I can't be arsed to slot it in the dock. I would also be looking for at least a camera on it as a 2nd feature (I don't have a digital camera), and anything else would be a bonus, really. Any suggestions (on a cheap contract or pay as you go)

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

No I always have my phone. I would rather have had the P800 but it is not offered or suported in Canada yet.

Either I have my PDA and phone when at work or my phone or iPod / gameboy. I try to limit it to 2 divices at once. No one product can do everything I want it to do so...

I have all of those too, except replace the Zire71 with a Tungsten C and the phone with a Kyocera 2235.

BTW, tonight is filled with gaming on the new UT2K3 Demo, impressions on the Tungsten C to follow.
