Hi there, I have a questions about wireless printing using the Airport Extreme. I know I can have wireless printing using the Airport Extreme's USB port. However, if I were to purchase a combination printer / scanner, would I also be able to utilize the scanner via the airport extreme? Or what about a scanner by itself? I apologize if this is somewhat of a stupid question, but I have no experience with wireless printing. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I doubt it, the printer would work, but the scanner would need drivers on the computer.

unfortunately no. However if your computer is near enough to the printer you might just want to do one of two things
1. hook the computer up to the printer and just do print sharing
2. use an auto sensing usb switch.
the system is simple.. it only prints, I know this for sure.. and there are no printer servers that allow of such a thing either.
Besides the whole idea is, say you have an office, with an airport extreme hub you stick 1 printer in the center.. but with scanners this slowly stops making sense.

thank for the replies folks. My situation is that I will soon be living in a small condo, and I'd like to be able to take my laptop anywhere throughout the place, including out on the balcony. However, just to keep things as clutter-free as possible, I was hoping to have wireless scanning to avoid any unnecessary cables. If I definitely can't do this by purchasing a combo printer / scanner, then I'll probably buy an individual printer and scanner and then just plug in the scanner when I need to use it.
Also, I should note that I don't even have a Mac yet. Yes yes, I know, I'm a terrible pc user. However, when I move into my new place, I plan to ditch the pc, and then get a mac and airport extreme. I've been doing lots of research on these boards and also talking to others concerning the purchase of a mac. Right now I'm waiting for Apple to replace the 15" Powerbook, and when they do, I will immediately vistit my local Apple Store. I can't wait!!
