Currently I have a PowerMac 7500/100 with several SCSI devices (slide scanner, CD-ROM burner, and external hard drive). I am planning on upgrading to a G4 and would want to be able to use the SCSI devices. If I get a G4 desktop, I imagine that this would not be so difficult, I would just need a SCSI PCI card. Any suggestions regarding that? I could probably get a cheap used one—any pitfalls in doing that? I am strongly considering a TiBook instead, though. What are my options for hooking the SCSI devices to that?

Thank you very much.

Two choices:

A Firewire-to-SCSI adapter. I have one and use it with my iBook and this would be your best bet for a powerbook. SCSI hard drives and a SCSI burner have worked flawlessly with it. But not all SCSI devices work as well.

SCSI PCI card: this is really your best choice for a desktop. But I would not get a cheap one. It might not work with your Mac. Buy a major brand that states that it supports Macs and OS X. You'll get your full warranty as well and can return it if there are problems.

Scsi PCI cards - like the Captain said above - stick with well known brands.

I would recommend Adaptec, mine has worked with OSX.1 like a champion.

When I bought my G4 desktop 2 1/2 years ago I just ordered it with the card already installed. Apple did it in the factory. It's probably cheaper to do it another way, but this was certainly easy!
