The 10 GB iPod is an extremely poor value. Apple is gouging people on the low-end iPod or hoping they'll shell out another $100 for the 15 GB.

If you buy the new 10 GB, along with the case, Dock, and remote, it'll run you $420 US. That's $20 more than the 15 GB iPod, but you get 5 GB less of storage space.

It's practices like this that really test my loyalty and patience with Apple.

The 10 GB iPod should really be $250 US.

I am sure the old 10GB was £199 (UKP) the new one is £240, this is very poor value for money. I could buy a high quality digital still camera/video camera for that sort of money.

The worst part is the value of my 10GIG iPod just sunk. Ah well, I'd rather have the direct FireWire port than to hafta lug some dock around or use some special cable. My current FireWire cable can be used for other products as well.

Wasn't the 5 GB model the same price before as the 10 GB is now?

Somehow, 5 extra Gigs for no extra charge doesn't seem like a bad value to me.

Too bad about the remote and dock, but I don't think the 5 Gig came with the remote either.

LoL, this doesn't change the fact that the 5GIG model, in it's day, was also a bad value. The more I look at it, the more I'm happy w/ my 10GIG iPod.

i agree, the 10gig is not a good deal. it is cheap, yes, but not a good deal. i wanted the 10gig, let me rephrase i wanted the cheapest, one but i wanted a remote with it.

i assumed that the old 5gigs did not have a remote, because the remote came out after them or something.

i see this might not have been the case. the 10gig does not have a remote nor dock. now the dock i don't particularly need, but the remote, yes i need this.

so add a remote to the package and you are around $50 or $60 less and 5 extra gig. hardly seems worth it to get the 10gig.

Here's a flash!

If it's such a bad value, then don't fu**ing buy it. Some poor sap will and Apple will reap massive profit, as they should from his (or her) lameazz.

I seem to remember something about a fool and his money...

Somewhat off topic but-- How is it that people keep forgetting that Apple is a for-profit corporation? Do people think that this secret cabal of benevolent millionaires magically drop millions into Apple's R&D program every year just for kicks? It's all about the green, foo!

And.. how easy would it be to check the price at an online retailer before finding something to complain about ?

"Old" ipods

5GB £259.01

10GB £329.00

20GB £398.99

So you could have bought an even higher quality camera!

This is so retarded. You guys are a bunch of ****ing whiners.

When you bought your iPod, you must have thought it was a good enough deal to buy it.

If it is working fine, you're getting your expected utility out of it.

No... it also has a cable that connects to either the Docking Station or the iPod itself (with a special connector at the end -- the long thin one) and has a FireWire port on the end. So you can use it on the go without the dock.

Afterall, the 10 GB model doesn't even come with a Dock, so if what you say is true, how would you connect it to your Mac?

I wish I would have bet money this argument would pop up any time new iPods were released. The low end iPods have ALWAYS been a bad bargain, the 5GB iPods were a bad deal as well. The most popular and probably the best deal on the iPods were and are the middle class ones. The 15GB version gets you all the cool stuff you want plus more space than the ten for only $100 more.

If you want a good deal wait a couple weeks for eBay to be populated with the old style 10GB iPods. They'll be selling for about what the new ones cost you now but will have remotes and cases and regular Firewire ports. They won't be as small as the new ones but you'll get more for the money.

You don;t need that huge dock to charge the ipod rite
Just use the dock connector to firewire cable and connect the ipod to an ibook or powerbook or whatever with it
And it'll still work like a firewire cable, charging and transfering files

Apple took out the firewire port, thats why the ipod is so slim and pretty now

Stop whining, and just use your current ipod just the way you should - Loving it.

don't get me wrong, i am not whinning. i am just staing my pov, that the 10 gig is not a good deal. the extra $100 for the remote/dock and 5 gig just seems more worth it.

i am currently sitting calculating if everying will be copasetic if i click place my order for a 15gig ipod as i type this

i hear you that apple is a for-profit company, and rock on, they better be, because i want them to be around for a long time.

The 10G isn't a great deal, but it isn't bad. The case and remote that came with my 20G have been in the drawer. I don't even know if they work. Not everybody has the same needs, and I know several people who would be perfectly suited by the 10G, if it had the sufficient capacity.

I think the new 'pods are great. I've got a 30G on order.

Original 5 GB iPods were $399 to start.

Think about it.

Interestingly, digital cameras do not perform as well as MP3 players when playing MP3s. I find the sound quality of the Canon G3 to be pretty shocking to be honest, and as for that storage capacity!

I hear you, but if all you have is $300 to spend, well, that's all you got. And hey, now you don't have an overly expesive case that you would probably replace anyways. Dock smock, go old school fool. The remote, it's not a necessity, it just a mess anyways. Um, feel better?
