Hi there,

A friend of mine, who's a PC user, is looking to buy an iPod for Windows PC. But I hear iPod for PC is not as good as one for Mac for some reason. Obviouisly, I belive iPod is optimised to work well with Mac and Itunes, but besides that, I wonder if there's anything else that makes iPod for PC to be less fun to use on PC than on Mac.

Neither he nore I have ever owened an iPod before. Anyone out there have experience with a PC iPod? Thanks.

The only bad thing about iPod for windows is the MusicMatch Jukebox software that's included. But that is easily fixed; just uninstall it and install Xplay ($30) or Ephpod (free) instead. Both of those are great for managing songs/playlists.

Other than the included PC software, the two units are identical. In fact, you can easily convert a Windows iPod to a Mac iPod with a utility made by apple. (you can also convert a mac iPod to windows, but you have to do so unofficially and it's more difficult).

Oh, one other thing: you can't use apple's new iTunes Music Store with the Windows iPod (although it should be available by the end of the year). Don't know if that is important to you or not.

Thanks for your info. It's good to know iPod's hard drive is convertible between platforms. Hopefully, Apple will introduce iTunes for PC side too.

With the release of iTunes 4 and the Music Store, Apple DID say that they will be releasing iTunes for Windows.

I think he said the SERVICE is coming to Windows, he didn't mention iTunes SPECIFICALLY.
