Since the new iPods were just released, and since my old one is still in the FedEx package, would it be worth it to go to the Soho apple store and exchange it for the newer model? When are the new ones available?

The old iPods are still pretty good in comparison with the new ones, but if possible I would exchange it, yes.

Depends on what size, and if you need/want the new stuff they added. If I had bought a 20GB, and actually needed more, I would try to trade.

I had a somewhat similar situation. I had purchased a 10GB from Goodguys less than 30 days ago ( For those that don't know Goodguys has a 30day no questions return policy )

After about a day of consideration, I ended up returning it today and ordering the 15GB for the same price I had originally paid for the 10GB. As was posted before there are pluses and minuses to each. The new iPods are by no means head and sholders above the old revision, in fact depending on the importance of the minor differences they could even be considered worse.

This is what I considered:

New Ipod: ( In order of relevance to me )
(+)'s to getting the new

The whole newness thing
Extra 5gb
Smart Playlists
Dock
Smaller/ Lighter
The remote is seperate from the headphones { Instead of a patch through cord }

Keep the old:

I already have an iTrip on order
I love the location of the buttons/wheel. I don't imagine I will like the new as well, but am reserving judgement.
I already have a skin.
Standard Firewire.

I must have went back and forth 100 times, but I ended up making my final decision on the playlist thing.

I don't think this is true. You think that there are two cords running from the iPod (one for the headphones and one for the remote)?

Yeah, the new remote has that funky dogleg to connect to the remote port that's next to the headphone jack (instead of being inline with the jack).

Otherwise, it looks and operates the same as the existing remote.

I was talking about the connection being seperate, my old rev would pull out juat a bit then the remote wouldn't work. It just seemed very sensitive. After a second read, I guess I should have worded that a bit better.

Ok, yes that is an advantage. Since the pictures on Apple's website don't show the headphones plugged into the remote, some people have apparently misunderstood that is is separate from the headphones, and that's what I thought you meant.
