I was greatly disappointed yesterday to see a wired headset on the TV ads for the new iPods. I was hoping by now that Apple would have found a good enough wireless technology to include a wireless headset as an option for the iPod. I really want to buy a new iPod and use it while working out but I hate the idea of carrying a $300+ piece of equipment in my hand as I'm running (not to mention the scary notion of doing this with a spinning-disc hard drive inside). I am sure people have looked into it but I suppose Bluetooth headsets, for instance, aren't high enough quality for the iPod, even though BT is 768 Kbps (I believe) and the audio would only be 128 Kbps.
Anyone know if/when we can expect a wireless headset for the iPod?

i have read that the hdd does not spin continuously, but only when it needs to put a song into memory.
what do you think battery life would be like on bluetooth headphones, and plus i do not think those can be very cheap.

Either way the idea is scary that it would be spinning at any time while I'm jogging along!

It's true they aren't very cheap. My dad has a Bluetooth headset for his cell phone (provided by Jabba or whatever), and it cost something like $140. It has a good long life to it; I'd say the length of the battery on the iPod. The problem is the quality. For a digital transmission I still heard a lot of noise.
Still the idea of a good high quality wireless headset for the iPod with a good battery is a great thought for people like me who don't want to have that bloody cable hanging down. Perhaps there is hope with FireWire wireless, or GigaWire as Apple copyrighted it.

I completely fail to see the attraction of a wireless headset. If it were magically able to work without recharging and had the same quality as a normal set of headphones that might be one thing, but the last thing I want to worry about is if my headphones are charged... Plus there is the issue of what to do about a remote. Would this be wireless as well? Connected to the headset somehow? I just don't think it is something to get upset about.
By the way, if anyone is going to come up with something like this it will be Sony (and they haven't yet, beyond some old tape walkmans that were discontinued because they interfered with other electronics in the surrounding area).
