I have the old 10gigger and after the recent update the max volume is much less than before. Any ideas how to get it back to awesome?

This is because you are located in the EU countries. And there is a law which limits the output level to 100db.

1. You need to set everthing on you mac and ipod to a US location. (date, keyboard, etc.)

2. Then log out and log in again, don't skip this otherwise it won't work.

3. Downgrade to version 1.2.1. If you have previously 1.2.6 or a later version installed, type "rm -rf /Library/Receipts/iPod*" in the terminal (without quotes), otherwise an alert window will pop up, that you can't install an older over a never version. Now you need to restore the factory defaults of your iPod. (with the version 1.2.1) After successfully downgraded, your iPod will show version 1.2.1.

4. Now update your iPod to version 1.3, you need not to do a restore. Updating is ok.

5. set your locations and other location related settings back to your needs.

If you don't have the 1.2.1 version anymore, you may look at gnutella
