Does it have a speaker to allow for the alarm noise or what?

Yes, it has a piezo buzzer, just like the old iPod. You know that clicking sound that you hear when you move the wheel? Well, the alarm clock sounds come from the same device.

I wonder how loud this feature is going to be. I personally need something really blaring to wake me up

If you've ever seen a bad iPod (with the folder and exclamation mark or the sad iPod Icon or the missing hard drive icon) you'll hear a real loud noise, not quite alarm strength, but certainaly a lot louder than the clicky noise. So there is definataly a "speaker" in the old one, but i couldnt quite isolate where it was and gave up.

I dunno if it's a "speaker" in the traditional sense of the word... which is why I suppose you put speaker in ""'s... I wonder what it REALLY is.. anyone know?

It's a buzzer. Who knows how loud it is? I'm sure that the logic board is redesigned in the new 'pods.

Personally, I hope it's really loud. I need a blaring alarm to wake me up. I remember when I was on a trip with some other guys, and I had one of those 'travel' alarm clocks. I was in another room, and one of the guys came in and woke me up. 'Your alarm's been ringing for 45 minutes, man!'.

lol..

That's my problem too. I had a reaallly loud westclock my mom hated.. it was funny looking.. .but anyway it broke.. so I replaced it with something else...

My mom hates it because she says it's too loud but I've slept through that thing more than like 20 times.
