Alright, I've been waiting for the new iPod since December - and nows its time to buy one. However I have a couple of choices and I'd like to know what other people think or have experience with.

I can buy the iPod at an educational discount - although its only about $25 CDN. That gets me the standard 1 year warrantly, plus an extra 1 year warranty covering repairs via VISA. My other option is to buy at a somewhat MegaStore - London Drugs - and I can purcahse an extra 2 years warranty for a total of three for $100. $100 for a whole year isnt bad - something like $8 a month for warranty (assuming one year extra as the VISA covers one year no matter what). However one of the stipulations of the extra warranty at London Drugs is that if they have to Replace or Exchange the iPod, then after that is done the contract expires, it is done. If they just do a repair, then your service continues.

As far as I understood, the iPod isnt very 'repairable,' although I may be wrong. I'm trying to figure out from other people if when they've had iPods serviced, if they replace them or repair parts. Or if anyone cares to comment on the warranty program at London Drugs I would appreciate it too...

Well my old ipod was all wacked out yesterday. I took it to my local apple reseller, and in there srevice department. He said he can't touch it with out ruining the warranty, because you can only send it to the apple repair factory. So the company you may be going through is probobly going to replace it? The apple repair factory is $25 after your first 90 days of owning it.

Yeah thats what I'm confused about, I don't want one little thing to cancel the extra warranty. In Canada, there is no central Apple repair, you take it to a local authorized repair centre - but what will a big chain do? Send it to them? I dont know. And if you talk to the people in these stores they are absolute morons - no offense to anyone who works there, just the praticular people I've dealth with. That is my general experience with these type of stores, they're good for buying at and thats it.

I went to a different store hoping to talk to someone who didnt seem to have a grudge against Apple, and instead I got someone who spoke really poor english and couldnt tell me anything about the warranty service. And he told me "I dont know when we will get them, because we havent had any since Christmas" And then I had to inform him there was a new model. So he went and checked the store computer which had the new models, although the other store I was at said they had no pricing information on them just earlier that day (which could have been true, but I think it was his grudge that made him not want to check).

I'm tempted to goto the local store that I know will have them saturday and buy one without the extra warranty, that or maybe I should drive for 6 hours to the US border and go buy it
