i think it depends if you think the new features are needed or not.

new one looks a bit different. has those extra features, which are not known if they are going to the old ipod. smaller. lighter. the dock has audio out (big feature for me).

I'm kind of in the same situation. The university bookstore is selling their stock of older iPods for $140 off the educational pricing, i.e., 10GB for $229. At that price, it's quite tempting. On the other hand I like the idea of the dock, and frankly, the new 10GB just doesn't seem to have decent value, so (much to Apple's delight) if I were to get a new iPod, it would be the 15GB. But at $369, it seems like quite a bit more to spend. Oh, well, I'll probably end up getting neither. I probably don't need another gadget anyway....

All depends on what you need. If you can use the new note taking capability, the on the go playlists or just want the new interface, get the new one.

If you just want an MP3 player, get the old. You can get the AAC capability through the free update. Either iPod is a great investment.
