Hi.

I have a dual 867 and whatever the standard AGp card is for that machine.

I have 1 apple 20" LCD going into the AGP plug on the AGP card

I have 1 apple 20" LCD going into the apple DVI connector which then goes into the DVI plug on the AGP card

But now i am stuck.

I looked at the specs of the ATI PCI card (7000?) and its DVI specs looks like they do not go up to the 1680x1050 of the applec 20" lcd


so does this mean i am out of luck if i want to add a 3rd 20" apple lcd?

does anyone know if a different card would do the job?

is this a mission impossible?*


*the cool old version not the tom cruise versions...

This is the only card I know of that is capable of using 3 displays at once, but unfortunately is only comptatible with Windows. Maybe there are some hacked drivers out there for Apples?

Well I think the 7000 PCI should be able to drive that monitor. Just do the Quartz over PCI hack. (if you don't need other PCI cards that use a lot of bandwith that is)

Can do.

Apparantly the ATi web site information on the Radeon 7000 is incorrect (I read it from xlr8yourmac ), the maximum 1680x1050 resolution I think it applies to S-video only. The maximum support for DVI should 1600 x 1024.

However, I dunno how the extra 80 pixels on the 20" Apple display might or might not work with Radeon 7000... I know Radeom 7000 can work with a 22" or even 23" Apple display.

I got a Radeon 7000 with a 17" Apple display (1280 x 1024) in B&W G3 (as well as an old 21" monitor on the VGA monitor). No problem at all!

Normally you can only use Quartz Extreme with a videocard that's located in your AGP slot. But this hack allows you put in a second PCI videocard that uses Quartz Extreme (QE is officially not possible through PCI).

PS: I don't think that those 3-head videocards support Quartz Extreme so I advice you to not buy one. You will experience slowdowns due to lack of Quartz Extreme.

You don't need the Quartz extreme PCI hack to get Radeon 7000 to work. The normal Quartz will work. The Quartz extreme PCI hack I heard does not neccessary make graphics display faster on Radeon 7000.

Yeah I know, I meant Quartz EXTREME over PCI in that post. Why do you say it won't be neccessarely faster ? QE takes a lot of load off the CPU.

Well, according to this xlr8yourmac article, some operations does go faster, but some video related may end up slower. Users feedback are mixed, so it's difficult to judge this is benefitcial to use the PCI Quartz extreme hack.

there is an small local apple dealer around the corner. i am basically going to ask them to try it (7000) out and if it works i'll buy a LCD,card on the spot.
