I have a 10GB iPod and have my eye on a new 15GB or 30GB. BUT, big *but*, I understand that the battery life is greatly reduced, from about 10-12 hours to an absolute max of 8 hours.

Any opinions as to how much I'll miss the longer battery life? Right now I only have to charge once or twice a week with pretty heavy use. If the new battery life holds true, I'm looking at four or more full charges per week, which will also reduce the life of the iPod since the more charge cycles, the quicker the battery goes.

I think the reduced battery life will be noticible definitely for previous iPod owners. I have an original 5 GB model, and i've had it replaced more than once because the battery life was starting to slip... this was back before software update 1.2.6... If you're used to 11+ hours like from the first iPod, you'll miss it alot... but for someone who's never owned an iPod before, it'll be ok.

In my opinion, alot of the features on the new iPods are basically toy features that aren't necessary (part of the reason why i don't mind that v2.0 doesn't work on mine) so the battery life will definitely hold me back from replacing mine with a new one.

Still, the new iPod looks hot. All the pictures make it look so unreal...

Yeah, I know. The killer thing for me is I love my battery life, but the 30GB would finally let me get all my CD collection onto the iPod with room to spare for another couple years worth of purchases. Right now, even an older 20GB would fall just short of enough space.

Oh, the humanity. I'm going to go look tonight -- I've been fooling with my budget sot that I can afford one -- and let's face it: I'll probably walk out with one. Apple is not a technology company, they are drug dealers!

Didn't arthur C. Clarke say that...

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from good drugs.

Or something like that.

P.S. I actually has a point here...

Whats the big deal with charging 4 times a week? Charge it while your sleeping...

I never sleep. No, seriously, I don't mind charging it four times per week, I was just thinking of the extra charge cycles on the battery.
