Is the cover/case that comes with the new ipod Dock Port friendly? As in, when the black cover/case is on the ipod, can you still plug it into the dock? The only pictures of the ipod in the black case on apple are from the back.. so you can't see how it really fits in there... also, how it fits around the buttons and 'wheel'...thanks!

the case is basically a u-shaped piece of cardboard that's covered by some sort of nylon material. it covers the bottom, front, and back of the unit while leaving the sides and top open. on either side are elastic straps that hold the two sides of the case together and keep the unit snug inside it. the iPod cannot be used while inside the case -- it's more of a 'holster' than a case; it protects it while playing and clips to your belt, but you still have to pull it out to use it. not worth $40 if you ask me, but better than nothing.
edit: i never actually answered your question: no, it is not 'dock-friendly' -- you have to take it out to put it in the dock.

that blows Why? Aren't you supposed to protect it while you're wearing it? The dock provides adequate protection against scratches anyways.

Actually it doesn't. I picked the 15 GB iPod last night. Beautiful piece of equipment. The base provides plenty of protection from scratches. The case is meant to transport, not live on the ipod. I am sure the new iSkins will provide the protection your looking for when they come out.
The last MP3 player I had was the Diamond Rio 500 that I bought several years ago. So I am very impressed with this unit.
My only complaint is the alarm. I wish it would beep until you turned the beeping off by touching a button on the iPod. The beep currently only last for like 3-4 seconds. Not enough to wake me up
