Along with the eMac update came an update to Apples mouse and keyboard.
Tut tut Apple, its still 1 button. But the keyboard I do like...

Yep indeed! But what's strange is that you currently can't order either of these seperately through the Accessories store at Apple.com.

No longer has the 'click' stiffness control on the bottom.

Now maybe it's just me, but that seems like it would actually be a worse product. Why would you release the same model you had before, only now it has less features
Apple really NEEDS to release an official 2-button mouse. Keep the standard mouse available now as the defualt, but include to option to upgrade to the "deluxe" mouse with 2 buttons and scroll-wheel.
I like the keyboard. not much one can do to improve upon keyboard design. remember all the "ergonomic" keyboards with the split in the middle so your hands would point different directions. I allways found those harder to use.

I can't find any literature on the new mouse and keyboard but, I'm thinking that these are just more durable ones intened for an educational enviroment.

I don't get the significance of putting the USB ports back of the keyboard... I mean I personally like having my mouse plugged in where it is. Won;t the mouse cord possibly hang over the keyboard now? And the new mouse isn't all that great either.
Maybe with next revision, we'll get 2 button mouse. <fingers crossed>

Actually, it doesn't.

Is the part of the keyboard with the USB ports set backward "under" the keys or is it right at the back? I'm wondering because normally i like to push the keyboard as far back as I can, which is when it hits the front of my iMac. This works fine even though I have my mouse plugged into the keyboard and the USB keychain device plugged in on the other side.
Now with this new keyboard I suppose I'd have the stuff sticking out back. How far? Does this mean it sticks out so much the keyboard has to be at least 2 inches in front of anything behind it if I don't want to pinch the mouse cable...?

As another post mentioned, this might just be a more durable keyboard and purhaps mouse for educational use. I mean I can see how the foot on the current keyboard can get broken off. We'll have to see. As far as the mouse is concerned, I would like to see a standard two button mouse with scroll whell, but I think I would buy a thrid party mouse anyway. so for me it's moot. I just think you get more out of OS X as an experience with a two button mouse, but what do I know.

I think these are entry level (keyboard & mouse). The keyboard doesn't have a height adjustment either. Maybe there are pro offerings coming soon too.

that would be great! just what I was hoping for. Buy a mac and get this keyboard a mouse standard, or pay a little extra to get the "pro" versions with more features (2-button scroll mouse, hieght adjustable keyboard with more usb ports and/or firewire)
I hope that's what they have in store for us.

Well, the new keyboard and mouse are called 'Apple Keyboard' and 'Apple Mouse', not Apple Pro Keyboard' and 'Apple Pro Mouse', and they are both more basic in features (no height adjustment and no click dial), so I'd reckon on the new Powermacs having different design 'Pro' items with them.
As a wild guess, I'd say height adjustable keyboard, maybe with more hardware/media buttons (2nd optical drive eject?), mouse with click dial, scroll wheel and/or 2 buttons, and both wireless through Bluetooth (though the keyboard would probably have to lose it's USB ports if this happened).

I don't care mush about height adjustment, I'd rather have it be "more durable", however I am concerned about the mouse cord either the new USB placement.
Maybe there's another port not seen in the angle the picture was taken in. I'd better go have a look at my local Apple Store.-- Anyone have a look already? How does Apple have the mouse placed and connected?
I'm not sure about the mouse, but I was planning on buying a Wacom tablet anyhow. Is the included two button mouse any good?

It'd be nice also if apple made the new pro keyboards easier to clean, or at least easier to take apart so I can clean out all the gunk that fell to the bottom of the keyboard without having to break the damn thing to clean it.

I went to buy a new 'Pro' keyboard and Mouse yesterday to go with my PB...
I really wanted a black version (As I have had on recent previous Macs...), but the store only had white. Hmmm. The one on display was just plain filthy. I asked the guy and he said it had only been out on display for a week or 2! Who on earth decided to make them white!!
Also it felt a lot 'cheaper'. There seemed to be no quality of material in the keys. They just didn't 'click' compared to the black ones...
Needless to say I didn't buy one, and am saving my money and wondering what the 'Pro' setups will be like! (Wireless anyone?)
Peace,
Marc

Marc, I have both black and white Pro keyboards at home side by side.

Well at a store it's probably a problem, but I can assure you that my white keyboard at home is still very white even though I was afraid about it becoming dirty too when I bought it. But, most people wash there hands after eating before they sit down in front of the computer...
Actually, the black keyboard doesn't look as clean as the white because on the black you see the dust much better.

I think the guy bullshitted you here. The keyboards seem absolutely identical to me. They look and feel the same. I think it's really only a difference in color.

I personally would prefer a keyboard with 2 USB ports rather than a bluetooth keyboard. I am guessing that is why iMacs only have 3 USB ports, the keyboard acts as a 2 port hub...

This is what Apple refers to as a 'third-party opportunity.' There are already dozens of mice to choose from, most under $30-$40.

the pro mouse is great it is quick and easy to use and is easy to hold
also it is my belief that this is one thing that seperate us from the other things wat are the called now... windows users..couldnt care less about who they are
i say keep the one button
if you cant use it then go buy a third party mouse and deal with it
