No, Apple had a good relationship with Sony Ericsson, obviously Apple try to support Sony Ericsson phone first.
Sony Ericsson P800 is also Symbian based and yet to be support by Apple. I guess Apple would have to do something for P800 soon, and by that time support to Nokia phone should come on board as well.
Just be patient.

I just hope they release the update before I buy a new phone.

Speaking of the T610, I've been holding off to buy a phone until it arrives. When and how much do you suppose it will cost? My guess is around the same price point as the Nokia 3650, since it competes with it feature-wise, but some crazy people are buying them for $700 of eBay -- for that price, get a P800!

There's no way I'd spend $700 on the T610. NO FREAKIN WAY. It's just not worth it...

The only reason why I got the Nokia 3650 was it was $100 after rebates...
i just wish it would synch...
arrrgh
If Apple isn't going to release a phone of their own, they should support everything (or at least that which has a huge market share - <ahem> NOKIA <ahem>).
Oh well...maybe they're spending all their time on getting the PPC970 out.

Nokia feels that it does not have to follow standards, that they are so huge that everyone else should follow them.
I intentionally crossgraded from my Nokia 8260 to the t68i mostly to be able to sync with my mac and I have no regrets. I love it. No more dicking around trying to punch letter by letter into my phone.
AlBook+Bluetooth+iSync+t68i = Gobs of freed up time

It's Nokia's fault? I don't think so. The technology that runs phones is relatively new. So how is there possibly a "standard" already?
Apple decided to follow one "standard," and one that isn't particularly better than its' alternatives.
I can't stand the T68i. It's had a bunch of problems, very questionable reception, and if it spends too much time in your pocket that joystick has a tendency of getting very loose. On top of that the interface is incredibly slow and unintuitive. Too slow for a phone. Of course, this is all just my opinion.
Just because Apple 'decides' on something doesn't necessarily mean it's better. Apple is a business competing in the global marketplace. When they see how many people are using Nokia's products they may have to rethink their strategy.
I just want them to cut the bullsh*t, get it over with and do it now so I can sync my lousy contacts.

I love Nokia products but Nokia themselves have admitted that their current of implementation of Bluetooth is non-standard. It's a problem with PC users, too. They plan to support SyncML (so does Apple).
I generally like Nokia phones, but I'm very mixed on the 3650. Seems a little big and the rotary keypad... ugh. The nice thing about the T68i is it is TINY and I haven't seen any of the slow interface problems with newer versions of the firmware. But reception IS questionable in many parts of this country.

Hmmm... Well, hopefully something gets worked out.
Honestly, when I first saw the 3650 I was taken aback by how large it was. Now it feels great. The screen is awesome (I don't know if I could go back to smaller one), the features are awesome and the circular keyboard is now second nature. I can also hold it between my ear and shoulder quite comfortably. And although the camera isn't the best quality, I take taken a ton of pictures because I always have it around.
Unfortunately there aren't a bunch of phones right now with Bluetooth support. So I was limited between choosing the T68i, the 8260i? and the 3650.
Except for having to move my contacts over one by one, I am happy.

Guys, your bitching over the merits of various phones is so boring!
A recent article on Think Secret predicts that iSync 1.1 will support Nokia and Motorola phones and should be out by the end of May. According to the article, iSync will even work via the USB-cable with some phones. Now that's good backward compatibility.
There you have it!

So the T610 support is in 10.2.6 but is the phone here in the states yet? If not or if so, what provider gets it? T-Mobile has the best planms that I can see and they have a few Sony-Errisson's so I hope they get it. I just want a cool ass phone that bluetooths with iSync.

I imagine both AT&T and T-Mobile will get them. I agree T-Mobile has the best rates but I've heard pretty positive reviews of AT&T as well.

Never set foot in there and never will, but that's where the bitching belongs, not here. Can't stand all the bitching and usually restrain myself from bitching about the bitching...
I hope so too! Thankfully, they often are.
I'd really like to have a choice beyond the very few Bluetooth phones available. Take for example the Motorola T720. It looks like a great phone, you can get it at a decent price, in GSM (with AT&T or T-Mobile) or CDMA (with Verizon and its better coverage), but it comes with a USB cable and no Bluetooth. If Apple can make iSync work via USB I'll be overjoyed.
BTW: I don't think the T610 is available in the US yet, but I imagine both T-Mobile and AT&T will eventually offer it. Actually, the US version of the T610 will apparently be called T616. The press release announcing the T610 said that it and the T616 would be available Q2 2003. So they should theoretically be available by the end of June. Realistically, I imagine it will be more like early Fall, and Apple will introduce an iPhone before then.

You don't THINK so but I KNOW so. Yes there are standards just like they are taking time to come out with standards for HDTV before it is released and how there were standards before DVD's came out.
Nokia sucks at bluetooth, they said so themselves.

T720 is meant to be a low end colour phone, so Motorola don't like to put in Bluetooth into T720. It would be fantastic is Apple implements iSync on USB!!!

From the Sony Ericsson US web site it indicates T610 will be available (have you got confused with T316 the US version of T310 which uses GSM 850/1800/1900 frequency (instead of GSM 900/1800/1900 in T310)?

No, Nokia did follow the Bluetooth standard. What is common mis-understanding is that Bluetooth standard itself have many implementation, and Nokia decides not to implement the full set of implementation. Nokia phones are compatable to any other Bluetooth device for the sets of implementation Nokia choose to implement. Nokia products evens receive the official Bluetooth logo which means it complies with the Bluetooth specification, but the Bluetooth specification does not requires vendors to implement the full set (which is logical, because it would allow venors to implement a sub-set to reduce the cost).

Does anyone else with a Nokia 3650 have trouble keeping the Address Book connected to the phone via bluetooth? Mine refuses to stay connected.
At first I thought there was interference from Airport or something, but it disconnects even when not in the presence of Airport. Something must be up with the phone...sleeping the bluetooth or something. Anyone else have this problem?

What do you mean, "stays connected." The only way that I have to interface with Address Book is to take a single contact, tell it to send the contact and then choose my device (it's always listed) and opt for an "OBEX push (i think)."

You can set it up so that when someone calls your cellphone it shows the number on your computers screen.

exactly. The bluetooth button stays blue (meaning connected) in order to display incoming calls, etc, but turns grey again (disconnected) after a certain amount of time (10 minutes or so).

Communicating with Nokia phones has always been problematic (even on the PC) because the company doesn't provide developers with documentation about how to communicate with their phones.
Bluetooth, IrDA, USB, etc. are universally standardised communications protocols and have nothing to do with the Apple's lack of support for Nokias.
I'm sure Apple would readily support the popular Nokia models if the developer information was made available.

Well, Sony Ericsson web site generally don't have the date for new releases etc. However, if it appears on the "coming soon" page it should be available within 2-3 months (but don't hold me accountable what I say here )
I personally still think Sony Ericsson (not the Swedish company Ericsson AB) do a better job in terms of providing the new models to the market after the announcment sooner than Nokia do (often Nokia announced the phone, stating it would available in 6 months, but then you need to wait 9-12 months before you can buy one).

Not sure if you are aware of Nokia Forum. This is the Nokia website where information for Nokia developers is provided. As far as I can tell Nokia do procide a fair amount of developer information there.

ThinkSecret has some info about a forthcoming iSync 1.1 update;
Company documents say that iSync 1.1 will have support for more brands and models of wireless phones, confirming our earlier report that the update will feature expanded compatibility. While they do not go into further detail about the phones, we were initially told to expect support for more Motorola and Nokia phones, as well as the Sony Ericsson P800.

I've heard of the Nokia Forum and just had a quick look. It does look like they have phone syncronisation and other SDK tools for Windows.
Perhaps it's a lack of support for OS X that's the issue. If so, Nokia or Apple should do something about it because I'd like to sync my 7210 in OS X.

I guess they might be talking to each other already. At least when I look at Apple Bluetooth page, it does have reference of Nokia 7650 and how it can be used with a Mac via Bluetooth. If they are not talking to each other in some way Apple won't even brother to put Nokia 7650's picture in their web site, right??

So then by August? I should be able to use the T610 to call my friend and tell him I just bought a 970 from the Apple Store?

I'm afraid you do not.
iSync makes use of a protocol called IrMC (also known as OBEX), this has nothing to do with Bluetooth whatsoever.
Both my Nokia 6310i, and 3650 work perfectly with my 12 inch Powerbook for pretty much everything else, and although I can't sync my Address Book with my phone - when somebody calls me their number does appear.
And believe it or not, the Nokia 7650 and 3650 fully support the SyncML standard, I have the Remote Sync application installed on my phone - pity Apple doesn't support SyncML - whose not supporting industry standards now, eh?

Perhaps it's a lack of support for OS X that's the issue. If so, Nokia or Apple should do something about it because I'd like to sync my 7210 in OS X.
ya, hear that! i hope they're not migrating entirely to bluetooth, and leaving irDA out in the cold...

From the recently dropping prices on unlocked T610's on eBay (going for about $350 now), and since the countdown on www.t-six-ten.com is at 6 days, I am going to assume it is a matter of days/weeks until the T610 is prevalent in stores. Salling Clicker, here I come!
Now the only problem is escaping from Sprint...

I just bought a Nokia 3650 after hearing disappointing things about the T610. Love it, and hope iSync 1.1 supports SyncML!

Think Secret was reporting the iSync wouldn't support SyncML until iSync 2.0, which is supposedly due with Panther in the fall. Seeing that Think Secret just removed its three iSync articles "at the request of Apple Legal," their info was probably (and unfortunately) close to the truth.
I'm just looking forward to sync via USB. If only the T720 was a tri-band phone and not just dual-band! I'd hate to buy a GSM phone in the US and then not be able to use it in Europe. In that case I might as well get the CDMA version with Verizon's better coverage.

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.

iSync makes use of a protocol called IrMC (also known as OBEX), this has nothing to do with Bluetooth whatsoever.
Does your 3650 stay connected to the Address Book?

Or you can wait for the Motorola T725! Tri-band, EDGE, MMS, optional camera... it got everything you want... as long as you are prepared to wait for a few more months!

Ooh! Thanks for the tip, veryniceguy2002. Of course, an Apple iPhone might be competing with the T725 when it comes out in the second half of 2003.
