Sony DV camera directly to Ext. Hard Drive

	I was wanting to know if anyone has tried to by-pass their Mac and record video directly to their FireWire hard drive. This would be like a live video feed or something. I've tried it a few times but no sucess. The reason for my question is that when I go through my Ibook the video and audio become out-of-sync. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!
