Hi all,
So I got this Cube and Apple Studio Monitor last night. What I didn't know was that the monitor has a DVI connector on it. The problem is that I'm currently running with a KVM switch which uses VGA connectors. The monitor I'm currently using really needs to be replaced, and I'd like to replace it with this new Apple Monitor. All the DVI->VGA connectors I've seen work off the female type of DVI connector from the computer. Is there one that works off the male type from the monitor?

Do you have this monitor?

If so, it's an ADC connector not DVI. I have the same monitor--great CRT--but you've run into its severe limitation: the only CRT that has ADC which limits the adapter choices, if you can find any at all.

It sucks so much power than any VGA to ADC adapter, like the Gefen one link, link, won't work. In fact, it can only be used with an ADC video card.
I am stupidest when I try to be funny.

Right - I realized that I wrote the wrong adapter type. Yes, that's the monitor I have. Also, I forgot that this monitor doesn't require a power cord. It's a great concept but you're right, it limits what I can do with it. I already have space for 2 monitors and I can't fit another monitor on my desk.

I'd hate to sell it, but maybe it'll give me an excuse to get a flat-panel display since I won't be using any of the KVM switched-computers for games.

I'll check out those link. Thanks.

I found one cheap ($150) when Circuit City was clearing out the Apple stuff. I almost bought it immediately to have a second one, but waited to do some research.

I could find no way to attach it to a two-headed card or to a PCI video card, so I passed.

I believe the power consumption and the digital to analog conversion (?) are the problems. To reiterate, that Gefen thing won't work.

Too bad, it's a great monitor.

Congrats on the Cube, btw.

{edit: Where you the one that was interested in an SGI Indigo2 some months back--we were talking in the forums about Linux on an O2? My company's selling an Indigo2 (not Max Impact) on eBay if you're interested: seller ID ias_design}

Probably me. I don't remember Linux specifically, but I was interested in an Indy/Indigo since the one my friend gave me was essentially useless and died an hour after I got it. I still have the monitor which I want to replace since the picture's starting to fade.
