Hey all, trying to help my dad get a few more months out of his 333 iMac. His hard drive is full as he has finally discovered iTunes. I have a 6GB from another iMac in an external Firewire/USB xx which I am thinking about letting him use. Anyone know if the 12Mbps would be too slow to play music through iTunes?

Should work just fine. Audio ranges from 1411 kbps for aiff to 128-256 kbps for mp3/aac. USB 1.x, at 12 mbps should be able to handle both w/o a hiccup. I've often played mp3 from my USB 1.1 keychain "flash" hard drive ... and I just added an aiff to make sure I wasn't steering you wrong. Works just fine

*note: this keychain hard drive has an upper speed limit that is FAR lower than USB 1.1 ... and its still fast enough. Your external should perform even better than this.

Absolutely yes. USB 1.1 can do about 1 MB per second. MP3s (at 128 KB/s I think) are usually 1 MB per minute of music.
