Looks like my cable company is up to their old tricks again. They're charging me $5.00/month to "lease" the cable modem for their service.

Can someone recommend a decent cable modem that I can buy outright? What kind of features should I be looking for??

Is there such a thing as a router/cable modem bundle? How about one that will let me use wireless connectivity ala Airport or Airport Extreme (802.11)??

How much should I expect to pay for something like that?

find the model of the cable modem u are using & go to ebay or www.craigslist.org & see if u can find one for cheap.

Thanks for your help. I ended up buying a brand new Toshiba PCX2200 cable modem from Costco ($55) after $20 rebate.

I had the same trouble 20 years ago when the cable company wanted $5.00/month for a friggin remote control for the cable box.
