I have both of them and i use them at the same time as AE and they work great! I would recomend them to anyone who has enough money for them, as its great to use a great mouse and have NO CORDS WHAT SO EVER. I didnt know if i would like them but i love using it to play WCIII in my bed and not have to worry about anything. The BT mouse does no jumping as far as i can tell and the scroll wheel is a savior when reading forums and such. I would recomend them highly. I can take pics and such if youd like. Just PM/email/post.

You can find the Microsoft Bluetooth mouse in most Best Buy stores. I find in for $85, I didn't bother to look for the keyboard. It's also on their online store.

i'm using the microsoft bluetooth mouse with my powerbook 17" and it works good (not great). there are occasional skipping but it's very minor. Microsoft just needs to release compatible drivers for OS X.
i'm using the powerbook's integrated bluetooth and the included microsoft usb receiver is installed on my desktop pc.

the mouse feels great, wires are eliminated, and it looks cool too!

Hi,
This is a peripherals post more than a powerbook question.

Moving....
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

The mouse tracking is not smooth at all and it jumps around randomly. It's now a known bug at Apple (I filed it). When the bugs are fixed, it should be a great mouse.

MS's web site still alleges that the keyboard isn't Mac-compatible. Does is come w/IntelliType/IntelliPoint software? Are all the buttons and such fully customizable?

Also for those of us without built-in BT, can the included adapter work for communicating w/other BlueTooth devices or is it some annoying MS-specific hacky thing?

thanks.

Weird. I remember reading those threads a while back, but I could swear they didn't come up when I did the search this time around. But anyway, they say the keyboard works with a Mac, but no word on whether the drivers work yet.

benb, as far as waiting: yeah, I almost forgot that MS and probably Apple will have BT mice/keys out today. You were probably hinting I should wait for Apples, but if I get one, it'll probably be MS. 'Cause I doubt Apple's 'll have the extra media/internet/custom buttons (spare, clean design aesthetic and all), and, well, they're the best thing about my current kbd..

Oh well, guess I'll see what happens later today..

Good to hear that the M$ mouse works with the built-in bluetooth on the laptops, I wanted to wait and see what Apple came out with, but ever since I bought an intellimouse explorer more than 3 years ago - I will never go back. Back/forward buttons in my browser are priceless, and I have keyed the scroll-wheel button to 'snapback' - I realize it may not work all that well without M$ drivers, but I would take that over Apple's one-button wonder any day.

Well I was waiting to see what kind of Bluetooth keyboards and mice Apple came out with -- a one-button mouse is a no-go for me so I went out and got the Microsoft BT mouse tonight. I'm going to keep the wired keyboard for now because I like my black Apple Pro kb.

Anyway, it took all of 10 seconds to discover and setup. Painless. Now some drivers to configure the extra buttons would be nice, but whatever.

The only thing I've noticed is the "stuttering" effect. Very occasionally, I'll notice the cursor jump a few pixels in some direction when I haven't moved the mouse. Irritating, but I think can I live with it as long as it's not too frequent. I wonder if I need a solid colour surface/mouse pad (i.e., an extremely finicky optical sensor)? I'm currently just using it on a light wood desktop. Hmm.

I can only speak to the mouse as I didn't buy/want the keyboard.

I just installed the new Intellipoint drivers and it still won't detect the mouse. Sucks.

I posted this in the powerbook section also. I remember reading about problems with the apple bluetooth mouse and i being detected. Currently I have an apple bluetooth mouse on order but it lacks a scroll wheel and two buttons for internet surfing. I would be using it for my new 15inch pb. What is your suggestions?

wht do you mean by occasionally? Say your sitting at your computer for an hour doing internet surfing, how often will it happen?

Would you think mac would fix this with their drives, now knowing that apple released a bluetooth mouse?

Honestly... I like the lack of wires, but at least with my experience with this Microsoft Bluetooth mouse... I wouldn't recommend it. There are far too many annoying skips and whatnot. Especially given the price of these devices. I think I'd stick with a wired mouse personally.

As far as the skipping, it happens every couple of minutes, although I still haven't isolated it to whether or not it's a surface tracking problem or something related to the wireless technology. Also it falls asleep fairly quickly if you're not moving/clicking and then you have to click the button to make it come alive again -- just moving it doesn't seem to do anything, at least not very quickly.

I don't know. I'd recommend it with reservations... major reservations. If you absolutely need something wireless, it's OK, otherwise I wouldn't spend my money on it again.
