Can anyone give me some real world reviews of the range on an Airport Extreme base station? I have an 800Mhz 17" iMac with old school airport, and want to have it on Airport in the house since the cable modem is downstairs, and I am upstairs.

Any problems?

I had my Airport Base in the Den. I got excellent reception 65 feet away in the backyard. This is through 4 walls out to the Patio using an iBook.

Once I'm outside the AirPort reception icon drops from 4 to 3 bars but still works great!

I replaced it with AirPort Extreme and 17"PB and get the same performance.

I don't know the feet range, but my airport extreme base station is in the basement and I use my PB primarily on the first floor. In the kitchen, which is farthest from the station (one corner of a two-story house to the other, so through several walls and up the stairs) reception is worst, with 2 bars normal. In all other rooms, reception is at least 3 bars. Right now, I'm in the room above where the sation is located and it's 4 bars.

I tried it outside once and didn't do so well. I want to try again, though.

My original graphite sucks around my house. I keep it in my bedroom upstairs, and get lucky if I can get a signal downstairs.

You're probably seeing interference from something. You should be able to get better signal. Have you tried all the channels? Move the ABS away from any cordless phone bases, your computer and monitor (important). And microvae ovens don't help either.

Good thing I moved out of the big house, and into a little apartment up at school. I get GREAT range here

Just for the record though, the only thing I had in my room where the station was housed was my iBook. All phones are kept downstairs, and I didn't have any other computers besides my iBook.

Next time I go home, I will mess around with different channels.
