Okay, so I'm about to get an iPod for both myself and my mother (late Mom Day gift). I want to set up her iPod with some tunes before I sent it to her. I have a few questions.

First, I know the AAC DRM stuff is somehow tied to specific computers. How about the iPod itself? If I sync some stuff to her iPod and send it to her, will she have any trouble getting it to 'bond' with her eMac?

Second, I'm running 10.2.6 and she's running 9.2.x. Will the new iPods work with OS9? Will it matter if it was first synced to an OSX Mac? I know OS9 can't handle AAC, but I'll be upgrading her to OSX in a month.

Third, can you sync only certain playlists to the iPod? I'll probably have more than 30GB of songs on my Mac and I only want to download a small subset to my mom's 15GB iPod (like 5GB max).

Thanks.

Even without DRM the iPod doesn't copy its songs to the mac. As for changing computers, here's the kbd:

Question 6: I have a computer at home and one at work. Can I update my iPod music collection from more than one computer?
Answer: Yes. When you first connect iPod to your computer, iPod recognizes that computer as its "home" computer. Each time you connect, iPod automatically downloads the music library stored on it. When you connect iPod to a different computer, iPod asks for permission before synchronizing with this music library. If you choose Auto-sync, iPod recognizes the second computer as its home computer and breaks the link with the original computer. If you do not choose Auto-sync, iPod switches to manual update mode, allowing you to selectively drag songs, albums, or playlists from the second computer to your iPod.

The iPod should work with os 9.2.2.

Third, can you sync only certain playlists to the iPod?
Yes. You can set it to: 1. sync entire iTunes library, 2. sync certain playlists, 3. sync manually - you drag and drop files to copy to iPod.
