From http://www.dealmac.com

iPod 15GB for PC for $314, 30GB for $404 8:58 am

Dell Home offers the new iPod 15GB for PC for $359.10 in its Software and Peripherals store. (Place it in your cart to see the lower price.) Add an item costing $1 or more (CD/DVD media) to your cart and apply coupon code "D048D84F4953" to further chop the price to $314.10. It's the best price we've seen by $80. The 30GB iPod for PC is also available for $404.10 after coupon and instant discount. Offer ends today.

I just bought one! I was going to sell my 5GB but now I get a 30GB for $404 and I can keep my old one! Dull also offers 2 percent back through eBates so that takes another $8 off! Not bad, a 30GB iPod for $396!

I can't imagine Dull is making much money at this price. I prefer to think that I just stuck it to old Mike.

Awesome price - thanks for the update. I have a 20Gig iPod and was ready to place my order @ $398 US. I figured I could sell my 20 for $325is on E-Bay and have a new 30 for an upgrade price of $75.00 or so.

Only problem is the fact that I live in Canada... No iPods at the www.dell.ca site and no shipping to a Canadian address from dell.com.

Oh well...

Yeah I was thinking about it too, just buy a couple, don't even open them and you could re-sell them here . That $398 works out to about $550 Canadian! Look at that dollar climb!! I just bought my iPod for $720 plus tax, thats at an educational discount too! I wonder if Apple Canada is going to change their prices at all if the dollar keeps rising. Cause right now someone is making a lot of cash off of this rising dollar.

Damn! This is very tempting... Must resist...

I guess all the talk a few weeks ago about Dell dropping the iPod from their online store wasn't really that big a deal after all.

I'm still waiting for an apologetic e-mail from the wicked, evil Michael Dell saying they're sorry for the mistake in their online store and can't complete my order at this price; so far no e-mail at all, not even to confirm my order. But my status has gone from processing to pre-production and is now at "in production" but delayed (item not in stock). We'll see.

I got a confirmation for my 30GB order (couldn't resist). So far everything seems fine. Thanks for the tip.

I imagine that they will take a while to fill the orders (mine said ships on or before May 30th)

Just put the ipod in your cart and there is a shipping and tax estimator that will tell you what it will be for you.

AHHHHHH NOOOO!!!! THE ADDICTION CONTINUES!!!!!!

WHY oh WHY have I fallen into this blissful, yet bittersweet, trap of loving Apple stuff, and tech-devices in general for that matter?!

Geez man, when I first saw this thread posted at about 3:30pm today I just brushed it off and said "Whoa, that's an insane deal, but I just don't need a new iPod..." Well, the thread kept re-occuring in my head, and I completed my massive load of homework, went to an awards banquet, and a few other random places, and I sat here at 10:59pm with it still burning in my mind, so I checked and saw already that Icruise had given in as well as a few others, and my resistance fled, I couldn't take it anymore, the deal was too insane to pass up.

So I justified my thoughts with the fact that I just made about $150 or so off of selling some random stuff around here on eBay, and so that's nearly half of it, and well needless to say, I hopped over to Dell.com (bleh, lol) and plopped a 15gig iPod in my cart (I honestly have no need for a 10gig 2nd gen. and a new 30gig iPod, just don't have nearly that much music or cash) and although the deal on the 30gig was tempting, I love my 2nd gen. WAY too much to sell towards the purchase of a 30gig. And I went to the CD-RW media (which I'm actually in need of) and picked up a 10-pack of CD-RW's for $7.26 (it showed like $6.36 or something, however in my cart it was $7.26, lol, but I'm certainly not complaining over that dollar) and plopped that in my cart also. It was now about 11:05pm and I'm really hoping Dell's site hasn't killed the deal yet, so I rush to checkout and I'm relieved to see the massive discount appear, however it really stunk to hafta shell out $22 for lame NC Sales Tax, but ah well, $343 for a new 15gig iPod and a 10-pack of CD-RW media is still a killer deal, plus I got free ground shipping.

So as of now, about 50 minutes before this deal ends, I'm awaiting a 15gig iPod. ARGH (happy and sad that I gave in, lol)! And I'm not terribly fond of it's appearance in comparison to my 2nd gen., but the new games, backlight buttons, and the other cool neat inclusions on it just pushed me over the edge. Plus, I've got a new iPod event t-shirt, and I can't wear the shirt w/o the iPod that's on it, eh?

The greatest part is I'm not getting rid of my 2nd gen. iPod which I adore, so it'll be swank to have both. I'll most likely end up giving my 10gig to my girlfriend as a gift, but I've got awhile until her birthday.

So after this rant, I just wanna say THANKS to the poster who led me onto this amazing deal, and also, just realize you made me spend $343 that I REALLY DIDN'T NEED TO SPEND, lol, but I'll love every note of it.

Woohoooo, hopefully my shipping notice will have a date before May ends!

Anyone else gonna jump on this deal before midnight? If I had lots of extra cash and had no sales tax, I swear I'd order a stock to send straight to eBay.

Welcome to the club I don't think you could order a stock for ebay, since the extra coupon is only one to a customer (although I guess there are ways around that). Anyway, I still have to figure out how to explain this to my wife...

...so this is only for PC, not for Mac? Is it possible to reformat the PC version of the iPod into a Mac compatible version?

with the new iPods it's the same thing... it formats for whatever you plug it into first (as my friend found out.. he plugged it into my powerbook first and then into his PC and had to reformat it and lose the songs i gave him)

were they like that before? I think I recall there was the option to choose the iPod for Windows or iPod for Mac when purchasing the previous version.

Thanks! I can't wait for my 30GB to come, either!! I was worried that I wouldn't be able to use it on my Mac. that would have kinda sucked.

In the 2nd gen. lineup, you could buy a "Windows" or a "Mac" iPod, however, the only difference was that each came already formatted for that specific operating system; the new ones are ready for both. And even in the old ones, regardless of what it came as, you could simply reformat and make it work w/ either OS.

Ahh, I gotcha on that "one per customer" deal...that'll work.

But I hear ya on explaining it...I told my father about it and couldn't ask my mother (she's the usual final-decision-maker in the house, lol) because she was asleep and hasta get up for work at 5:00am, so my dad was like "Yeah, I think she'll go along with it..." I'll hafta think of how to bring up the fact that I just spent $343 to her tomorrow, haha, hope she has a great day at work! Of course, the cash from eBay should help.

Man I'm excited, now I've gotta find myself a nice case. I SO wish there was an iSee case for the new iPods...are there any clear cases for the new iPods? Any suggestions on cases for the new iPod?

As with my 2nd gen. iPod, it won't get taken out of the box before a case arrives; I'm obsessed with the perfection of my chromed casing.

Also, will my 17" PB incur any problems or issues having 2 iPods that it'll be syncing with?

I've never done it, but I don't think there is a problem with two ipods syncing from the same computer. As long as they have both "bonded" with that computer and not another. How exactly do you plan to make use of both of them?

Sounds good! Well I'm not exactly sure right now, lol, I'll probably house all my tunes on both iPods for awhile, and just put the extra gigs I couldn't fit on the 10gig onto the 15gig; basically split my music collection between the two.

However, I'll probably also use the 10gig as a bit of a FireWire HD in that I'll have maybe a carbon copy of my OS on it so if it crashes I can just boot from my iPod, and I might put some pics on to free up space on my HD and whatnot.

I'm sure in time though, it'll become my girlfriend's. She loved my 10gig when I purchased it, and as the need for 2 wears off, she'll probably acquire my 10gig so it'll still be around me to admire.

PS - Got any case suggestions? The ones over at www.everythingipod.com are the best to me, but they're shipping in mid-June! Yikes!

be careful giving a hand me down birthday gift to a girlfriend. she may see it as YOU are getting the gift and she is getting a hand-me-down. i would get her a real gift and surprise her with the iPod for no other reason but love. i had this explained to me by someone who has been through this EXACT scenario.

LoL, oh trust me, I'd *never* do what you just described...I probably should've emphasized my sarcasism on the "birthday" statement, I was just stating that she probably wouldn't get it immediaitely, but most likely I'll just give it to her on some random day out of the blue for no occasion whatsoever so that it's just a gift out of love rather than out of duty.

Unfortunately, you didn't.

A friend at work just came from Dell and he worked extensively on their web site. He gave me a very detailed overview of how they track prices and margins and how promotions work into that. The quick summation: Dell doesn't lose money on their website promos. Ever.

They may not make as much profit but they'll never have a loss. Which makes me think the margins on the iPod is outrageous.

Oh well. I still have a new 30 GB iPod for $100 less than I could get it anywhere else.

Apple sells the 30GB iPod through the ADC store for $399. So you're probably right, the profit margin on the iPods must be huge. They're all making money, but at least those who were able to take advantage of this deal still saved some big bucks anyway.

No, I checked mine several times because I never got an e-mail confirmation of my order. I finally discovered this morning that the e-mails had been automatically deleted by my junk-mail filter. Nice of Entourage to assume that anything from Dell was spam.

I have been debating this for the last four hours. I just got an second generation 10gig for $200, now I am tempted with the new 30 gig for $404. The hell with it...if it is still up I am in. I get paid again in two weeks!

I first misread your post as though your order had already shipped and thought I was going to have to call you names. I convinced my girlfriend she couldn't pass up the deal on the 15GB iPod and placed an order for her yesterday. Too bad we have to wait a week or two before the new toy arrives. Unfortunately I may get iPod envy since I have deal with the "huge" comparative size of my old 20GB iPod.

Keep the rubber side down!

Um, am I the only one who is shocked to check his Order Status just now and see "Shipped" under "Order Status"?!

Sure enough, I just checked it and just as I was typing this it says this:

--Shipped Items

Shipped 5/16/2003

Sku: A0018762 Quantity: 1
Description: CD-RW, 80 Minute, 700MB, 4X (10-Pack wit

Tracking Number: 1Zxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Shipped 5/16/2003

Sku: A0114473 Quantity: 1
Description: IPOD MP3 PLAYER 15GB

Tracking Number: 1Zxxxxxxxxxxxxx

w00t!!! Gotta hand it to Dell, they sure fill orders faster than Apple! I'm still awaiting my extra 17" PB battery that I ordered on Feb. 23, 2003!

Wow that's amazing, so instead of waiting 2 weeks for it to ship, this bad boy is on it's way here, any others have such luck!?

well, I ordered a 15gb yesterday. Today I checked to see when it would ship, it said tehy had sipped it out today, and gave me a tracking number. The only thing they didnt ship were the cd-r's I orded. Well the tracking number did not work, so I figured they had just processed it. I check back a few hours later, a totaly differnt page saying my ipod had not shiped and wouldn't until the 30th. I go back, click it again it says they shipped it and gave me the same tracking number as before. Dell has problems!

tracking number still is not working.
