my roomate runs a desktop dell (and a sony vaio...which is pretty nice).

still, it's all windows, and i could care less.

then, last night, she got an eluminx keyboard.
backlit, beautiful. $99. U.S.

and no mac version (of course)

first time i am a little envious...

Is that keyboard USB? If it is, then it could be made to work on a Mac.

actually, it's a pretty basic keyboard, not very windows-like...but only for windows.

NOT usb, ps2...

HOWEVER, i find it more "trippy" & "fun" then useful..it's kinda glowy and undefined...

(but still better than nothing)

so how does it connect to the PC?
Perhaps if someone contacted the manufactorers, suggesting a Mac version?

does anybody else think $100 for a fairly basic keyboard is a tad excessive? sure, it's cool, but not $100-cool, i think. Plus, i think i'd find that much glow distracting while using the computer in the dark (since the entire key glows, not just the letter), but i haven't seen one in real life, so i could be wrong.

I just dropped them an email asking if they will ever do a USB version and Mac Layout...

I'll post their response...

I guess it would help to be on some drugs when using these keyboards. Nothing against the keyboards but they do lack the same 'cool factor' that the 17in powerbook has. Heck there was even a thread on slashdot about how to make your standard keyboard be like a 17in's (by the way, all the options sucked). When you've seen the 17 in action you'll know that any other option is just, well, lame.

Yes, and $100 is a lot of money. You can buy 5 gig iPod for just over $100. Blah

Get your own Mac version. The new 17" PowerBook has a lighted keyboard. Even comes with an awesome screen and CPU!

Geek solution is to connect fiber optics to a clip-on reading lamp and run it under your keyboard. Change the bulb color and the keyboard color changes. Use 2 lamps or colored fibers for multicolor glowing keyboard. Should work with Apple's pro keyboard or laptop, as long as it's translucent. Cost can be well under $20.

hmmm...
thing lacks an on-off switch for the luminescence.

which means it glows all the time.

personally, it's more of a lava-lamp for the pc than a functional backlit keyboard.

(gives me a headache)

prefer my kensington usb-powered light..

Just got this response to my email:

Marc,

Thank you for your interest in the EluminX keyboard! The current version of
our keyboard is ps/2; we will be releasing a USB/Mac compatible version
later this year. We do not yet have a release date. Please check back with
us as changes are occurring frequently.

Best regards,
