I just got my wife a Treo. She needs the PDA functionality more than the phone and it all seems to be working quite well at the moment (since yesterday).

I bought her the Sprint version since Sprint works best in our area. I'm a little confused about the Vision service though. Does it just suck ass? Does she have to use her Sprint email addresss and messaging service? Is there any way for her to check her normal email accounts on it?

thanks,
kman

I too have a Treo 300 with Sprint Vision.

Actually, I am quite pleased with the Vision service. For an extra $10 a month, I get unlimited Vision minutes to be used anytime.

She can use the Blazer browser that is built in to go to the website:

www.mail2web.com

...and then check her email that way. Has worked great for me.

The Blazer browser is pretty nice. I have used it to access my online banking and other sites..

I also use my Treo as a modem for my Powerbook with this software utility called Wireless Modem.

The only reason I am getting rid of my Treo is I have the urge for a Bluetooth phone to go along with my new Bluetooth Mac!

My only gripes with the Treo are the display brightness in daylight conditions, and the battery life.

Make sure she is smart about turning off the wireless mode when not in use.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips!

In real usage terms, how long is the battery good with the wireless turned on, but in standby. She will mainly be using it for PDA functions throughout the day with only limited phone usage. I just want to get some real-world idea.

thanks,
kman

My battery life experience with the Treo has been about two hours talk time/Vision browsing, and about 24 hours standby time.

It charges pretty quickly.

The speakerphone is actually pretty nice. It has a good range and is very loud.

Make sure she knows that when you check your minutes with Sprint, you are using minutes to do so.

Using it right now as a modem to post this...battery going fast!

There are plenty of e-mail programs you can use on the Treo without having to use something web based through Blazer. Take a stroll through palmgear.com, or look at what people on the treocenteral.com forum suggest these days.
