I just got a new 120 Lacie firewire drive(love the enclosure's vertical design) just want to know what kind of HD does Lacie use (ie. WD, Maxtor, IBM, Samsung, etc.) want to make sure it'll stand up to being used vertically for extended periods. Also anybody here on the board have one of these. So far it's top notch seems to be as fast as my ibook's internal drive.

Yet, right now it's only being used for backup. Soon I'll be pairing it w/ a new 17" imac and it will be running DV duties. Lots more work load so any info would be appreciated.

yea your right, Apple system profiler lists it as a Western Digital... WD's 120 gig HDs were said to be good so I think it'll work fine.

To the original poster:

can you take a look at the AC Adapter for the drive and tell me if it will work on 220V, 50Hz.

I am in Europe but will probably buy one of these when I visit the US next month.

Thanks,

Trygve

The back of the power supply lists 100-240V and it's got a standard US two prong connector w/ no ground. Good unit I'm happy w/ the purchase.

I bought mine at the Apple Store in The Grove (L.A.) and it works fine here in The Netherlands (Europe) on 220 V.

Mine is a WDC WD12 by the way.

I bought this drive just about three weeks ago. Whisper quiet and used it as a backup drive. The transfer rate is quite fast and I'm very happy with it. The CD installer for the Silverlining software was cracked when I took it out of its sleeve. Called LaCie up and they sent me a replacement CD in a couple days. I then realized they had the same software on the hard drive but it's nice to have the original CD that came with the drive. No problems to date.
