I'm curious to see if there is a major problem with the new iPod models (I have a faulty one), or if they are isolated incidents.

I hope this does not become a flame war, I am not being critical of Apple per say, I just need to get a better feeling for the problem. As it will help me decide if I should take my iPod back to the store.

I'm really interested to know about iPods that continually need to have hard resets to wake them up. I think this may be related to use of the hold switch as well. So if you don't have an issue, it would be interesting to know if you use the hold switch (not in the poll)

Thanks

Ian

I hope it's an isolated issue, mine was just shipped from Taiwan...

I too am very interested in the results, since I have a 30GB model on order. Although technically I don't think what you are referring to would be called a "hard reset" -- that generally implies returning a device to factory conditions and erasing all data on it. I think this would be just a "reset."

I can't vote, I've had to do a reset a few times, but the options make it sound like I reset every time I want to wake it up. This isn't the case.

I've had to reset once to wake from sleep, and a few times my iPod just reset itself. I have never lost any of the information on my iPod.

I bought the night they came out, so it's worked fine more than not.

there's why people should wait until the bug fix on apple's new product. I didn't, but i have no complain, apple will iron it out later.

I have a first generation and second generation iPod and I never had any real problems, I had to do a soft reset a couple of times ( 2 or 3 total ) but I never had to do a hard reset...

Mine just arrived! (30 GB) and is downloading the music now from the Mac, so I haven't voted.
What a beauty! My sister now has the 1st generation 10 GB and will soon become a die-hard Macfan as well, she's just loves and adores the iPod, as well as all her friends, who actually never saw one before.

Some good news !

I returned my iPod and I now have one without the reset problems.

It seems to be perfect except for the usual click between tracks.

The buttons respond as soon as they are pressed. The menus are quicker, and it never needs to be reset, even overnight.

Looks like a hardware fault on some iPods, take them back and get a replacement.

Very interesting. Thanks for the report.

If you're using the same playlist in the same way, it does rather suggest it's a hardware issue with some iPods. I already returned my balky original; maybe I'll try another.

It is certainly not related to playlists.

Nothing has changed in iTunes from the faulty iPod to the new iPod, same settings, etc.

It was a hardware problem.

It's now the 3rd day with the new iPod and I have had non of the issues mentioned before.
