My apoligies if anyone's already stated this...

But, it seems that either now, or in the near future we will have recording capabilities in the new v3 ipods.

If anyone remembers or knows about the self diagnostics you can run on the iPods. This new model has this as well but with a few new testing options. One of these, line F, is a Line Rec test. Starting the test brings up a Line In Recording test, which once finished, plays back the tested recording. Of course, we don't have any hardware to plug in to it unless a stand alone analog mic would work?

I bet there are line-in/mic-in pins on the new dock connector, somewhere.

It has a lot more pins than firewire, thats for sure.

(plus the dock itself has Line-Out, so we know there is a way to pump line-level audio OUT of the dock port)

Recording is one of the most requested features for iPods. All the more reason to upgrade my old 10 Gig to a new 15 Gig. Great for bootleging live concerts! (Joke people, joke)

bah, if you pay $45 you're entitled to record a concert. it's not bootlegging, it's live recording.

Has anybody heard anything else regarding this feature? I would live for this to be implemented sometime in the near future.

The hardware obviously supports recording, if someone could get the [url=http://ipodlinux.sourceforge.net/]Linux on iPod[url] project to work on the new iPods we might be one step closer :-)

Acually, the term bootlegging referred to people recording concerts with a tape recorder (back in the 70's). So, acutally, what you're reffing to is classic bootlegging, and just as illegal.
