Hey Leonis!

What is that desktop picture you have showing on your Cinema Display and where might one get it?

To stay on topic, though... My fav peripheral is my 2nd gen iPod. Sure wish it had a nice case that fit it.

Another vote for the PowerMate, and the 23" Cinema Display, even if mine does have a stuck pixel I just wish there were more hi-res wallpapers to show off its capabilities.

Yep, they've made another run of the limited edition Black PowerMates so grab them while you can...if history repeats, today will be your last chance as last time they sold out in 48 hours, and at the end of 5/23/03, that'll be 48 hours since their re-release.

I really like my:

Formac Studio.

Works even better with Non-Formac Software Vidi

It Rips Video / TV - so my mac becomes a PVR.

{n.b. two warnings - 1: Formac don't give a toss about their customers - they're just trying to shift hardware - 2: both I and a friend have bought these - both of us had to return our first box instantly, because the FireWire ports just didn't work.}

Once you get one that works it's great though - although It only encodes Stereo Audio (no surround)
You know it makes sense. ☼ ☼ ☼ Growl.

iPod is way up there. The Griffin PowerMate is also money, but mine was problematic (just didn't work right under X, although is worked like a dream under 9- Griffin Tech Support was no help, so it's been sitting unused for 6 months or so- perhaps I should check for software updates and try again)

My new favorite peripheral? A TiVo Series2 DVR!

It connects to my Mac over Airport and can access my iTunes playlists and iPhoto Albums. Hooked up to my Entertainment System, I now have all my music in my pocket and in my living room, without worrying about those pesky CDs!

It's very cool and a good implementation.
Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.

Seriously, though, Leonis, are they really cool? Precise? Comfy? I'm really, really looking into getting one. *eyes Cinema 4D* I think we'll have tablets to use when we start Maya in school. Is it comfy to use with C4D? Sorry for all the questions.

A graphic tablet is essential if you are doing:

1) Maya Paint Effect
2) Photo Retouching
3) Texture Painting in any 3D texturing program like BodyPaint, ZBrush, Deep Paint etc....
4) Creating "artistic" effects in either Painter or Photoshop

Once you start to use the stylus you will never want to be without it. Painting with a mouse is too clunky. Painting with mouse for too long can cause serious long term "injury" on your palm

6x8 Intuos is considered as the minimum size for serious work. Go for 4x5 Graphire ONLY when you are on tough budge or with tight desk space

Buy.com always has good deal on Wacom tablets. My Intous SE was retailed for around $550 CDN (two and a half years ago) but I bought it from buy.com for $360 CDN

Or maybe check out eBay to see if anyone selling his....

Nah, given his NSFG credits, I'd say he's more an "artiste"

And my fave peripheral is a lowly Apple mouse, since I am absolutely spastic when it comes to trackpads.

Why would they place a fake image of a real item?

Because you would have to pay someone to photograph it again. Easier to just knock up a Photoshop job.

Yep, that left wire is definitely not the same as the right. No big deal.

My favourite peripheral is my ShuttlePro.

Hey, it takes real talent to pull off a good NSFG. I'll have plenty of real art (drawings and such) on my web site soon enough. (see: not just NSFG and icons )

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, Leonis! Very cool -- I will look into getting a tablet as soon as I can. For now, I wouldn't say I've been doing too bad with a mouse.

iMate- yep, another vote for the shiny knob.

Even tho they have the most annoying web advertising campaign in history, my X-10 peripherials are pretty fun. I just moved them to my Cube via a Keyspan PDA adapter, and I'm redoing my scripts in homerun mostly because it has a plugin for soybo, an apparently not well known, but very interesting tool.

Last vote is for the Canon scanner we just got in the office on Friday- the N676U (I think). It's just $50, USB powered, and has 3 buttons on the front, copy, scan and email. In the setup app (which defies Apples HIG, sucks CPU, and doesn't understand packages- thankfully you don't have to see it often!) you say which button ties to which app, and a set of default paramaters. Net result- I can set a picture on the scanner and hit the email button, and it makes a 150dpi scan, auto-crops it to whatever size source material I feed it, finds the right jpeg compression to not exceed 600k, saves it in a folder in the path I choose, in a new folder of today's date, and drops the scan in a new email. I just address the mail, add my text, and send. That's useful, simple, and so far, reliable.

My new favorite toy:

Big fan of the iPod and the TiVo, also. Never found a good use for the Powermate other than as a volume control. But to be fair I've not played with it all that much either.

That was the exact reason I got it. I loved my old turbo mouse (it died an ignomious death when it was crushed by a mover... )

Only had it for a little over a day. I'll post a review when I'm done with work...
