in my iPod I have 4 folders (contacts, calendars, temporary items, and desktop folder). can I safely get the hell rid of the temporary items and desktop folders? I sometimes use the iPod as an external hard drive for transferring files to and from work and I wasn't sure if these were neccessary for that purpose.

Temporary Items and Desktop Folder are created by Mac OS 9. You can safely remove them.
