donny31,
I always recommend doing a little research prior to posting a new topic on macnn. You can often find the answer to your very question thus saving you time in the end.
But, to answer your question, I'm almost positive the current superdrive is the Pioneer DVR-A05 and should work fine with your machine (although, might require a reinstallation of OS X.
For more info on this topic, check out the topic posted right below yours titled "DVD-RW/Superdrive Question" It should point you in the right direction.
I know you'll love the super drive. I have a G4 with superdrive and I've already "backed-up" a number of movies, cds, etc. It's great!!
Good luck,
brian

i did do some research and i asked the question again because the superdrive in my 17 pb is a Matshita drive --i have never heard of that drive--i guess it could just be the drive they use for laptops not desktops? Is the drive in a Powermac a pioneer?

donny31,
I do believe apple uses different drives for their notebooks and desktops . . . I also have a Matshita drive in my notebook. As far as i know, the current superdrive being used by all apple desktops is the Pioneer drive. I did a quick search on ebay and a few came up so you should be able to find a drive fairly reasonable.
Hope you find a good one cheap!!
brian

I think Matshita and Pioneer are the same company, but I may be wrong...
