well I own a G3 and love it. The G3 has a better zoom, swivel LCD, many more "pro" features which you may come to learn and love. Also a biggy for me is the G3 shoots in RAW format which is the raw uncommpressed info straight from the sensor, which will give you the best end result and most flexability. Any more questions let me know...

i've used the G2, which is basically the same a the G3, with a few changes in grip, and some firmware differences. Absolutely wonderful camera! The LCD is far superior than any other camera I've used. I'm selling my Olympus c-3000z to buy a friend's G2 for a good deal. The G3 is a bit more money, and after buying the powerbook, i can't afford to buy a new camera.

The G2 is great but it is rather heavy and bulky. Haven't seen the Nikon.

9 months in Europe with the G2, 9000+ pictures ( http://photo.avenirex.com)... get it, it's awesome. As for me, I have a 10D now The G2 served well, and still works great.

The G2/G3 also has a faster lens--I think f1.8?....at least at the widest angle. Nikons typically use slower lenses. Translation? You'll be able to get more shots on the Canon that have less a chance of blur (because you can use a faster shutter speed if the lens is faster).
