is it true that the old generation iPod's battery "dies" after two years of use?

i've read on CNET reviews that a lot of the problems assosiated with iPods were the fact that the battery stops working after a year or two, and you have to buy a replacement battery (lithium ion, i believe) from Apple, which costs about $200.

opinions/clarification needed.

Hey j a s O n,

Not to worry...there is a replacement battery available for the older style iPods.

It looks to be a pretty easy swap too. I found this through a great iPod site www.ipodlounge.com.

I have had an original 5GB model since the first day the came out, well as soon as I could get one after the announcement, and it has been perfect with the battery holding almost the same charge as when it was brand new.
