Hi all,
I'm considering getting a new iPod but there's one thing I would like to know.
I would probably sync all my mp3s to my ipod; If by any change my mac's hard drive failed, would I be able to put all the songs back from my iPod to my Mac? (it's like using the iPod for mp3 backup, avoiding re-enconding about 200 CDs...).

Oh, and one more thing... does the scrool wheel wears out like an usual track-pad?

Thanks in advanced!

you can copy your mp3s from the ipod to the mac, but apple doesn't make it easy. download some shareware like "pod manager" from versiontracker.com

i've had no issues on the scroll wheel of my 20gb ipod.

There are a variety of apps at Versiontracker that make it easy to move mp3s from your iPod to your Mac.

No idea about the trackpad question, mine is too new to show any wear.

Looks nice! I'll check it out for sure- always looking for cool ipod apps. I like the lyric finder. That's another app I failed to mention that I love:

Do you have plans in integrating Entourage support?

don't count on your iPod for backup, they're not reliable as such. i've heard of people whose iTunes libraries are ruined and when trying to recover from iPod the iPod music was lost as well. If you love your music, make permanent backups or be ready to start reencoding if something bad happens.

Sort of on the same topic....I just got a new Mac and transfered my mp3's to it. When I plug the iPod in the new Mac will my playlists be gone? Can the iPod tell iTunes what they playlists were on the other Mac? I am not going to use the other Mac if that matters.

You could always transfer your iTunes playlist as a document on your iPod drive and then import it into the new Mac.....I think.
