I was wondering if you audiophiles could analyze these speakers for me before I make a purchase.

JBL Media 100 Info:

http://www.jbl.com/home/products/pro...CheckProduct=Y

JBL Media Sub Info:

http://www.jbl.com/home/products/pro...CheckProduct=Y

I recently stumbled across the JBL Media 100's and JBL Media Sub. According to reviews and personal accounts, these speakers sound great and look nice. However, they are old and can't be found online or in local stores. Therefore, I can't test them out myself.

Do any of you have any experience with JBLs or these particular speakers? I don't have any experience besides with the JBL Creatures. Would the Media 100 and Sub work with a PowerBook? Based on its frequency response and other features, would they be adequate for jazz and classical music listening?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!

Those look somewhat cheapish, quite low powered. And with a subwoofer crossing at a high 180hz, you're in for a lot of bloated bass. That's quite a bit of harmonic distortion too for the speakers/sub.

Go for what is proven and reviewed, eg Klipsch, Logitech, Monsoon, Videologic, etc etc etc

Though for jazz and classical, you'd be best served with something like the Swans M200 or a speaker that is more dominant in the mid/high range.

Thanks for your advice.

I'll hold off on the JBL purchase for now. Perhaps I'll stop by my local Tweeter or Best Buy to hear the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1s. Everyone raves about them.

The Logitechs didn't sound that great to me, neither did the Bose MediaMates. The JBL Creatures, Altec Lansings, and Soundsticks do sound nice. I tried purchasing the Creatures at a really low price, but that fell through. Has anyone been able to listen to the Harman Kardon Champagne speakers?

those are far from audiophile, but if you could score them for a cheap price then all is good. The Klipsch, Monsoons Cambridge Soundworks will be much better, but you will be pay quite a bit more 100-250 for a really nice set. Its all about how much you want to pay

I GOT WASTED WITH PHIL SHERRY!!!

I plan to buy a less expensive set of speakers now and save for a nicer setup later.

I would love to spend around $50, but there are way too many options out there. Are Creative Labs, Altec Lansing, and Cyber Acoustics viable options? Do they offer decent quality for their price?

Also, the JBL HK-695 Champagne speakers can be had for around $50 refurbished. Is that a good deal? Anyone have these speakers that can vouch for them?
