When will we see the 2.0 update for the 1st and 2nd generation iPod's?

What's the chances of this !!

Does anyone play solitaire and use the Alarm clock feature on there new iPods? I dont want to have to upgrade to the new model just for these features although i admit they would be nice

the alarm clock i mainly use when i have an appointment or something during the day, since you need the headphones on for the music, and the beep is too short to wake me up.

solitaire i play all the time.

playlist on the go, again all the time. sometimes i am sitting around, so i put the ipod to play every song on random, and then i make myself a playlist.

I would like to be able to play/store my MP3s on my iPod and play them thru iTunes on my PB. That could save me quite a few Gbs of space on my drive. Is there a work around for that?

IIRC, you can play songs off the iPod by enabling Firewire disk mode. When you plug in the iPod, you should see its name in iTunes (and its playlists one level below). You could then conceivably erase the songs from your PB (after disabling autosync), but I wouldn't recommend it. A better (but more expensive) idea would be to get an external hard drive and put your music on that. You wouldn't need to take it with you on the road, but you'd be able to update playlists and add songs to your library when you're at home.

I don't think firewire disk mode has anything do with it -- I believe you have to have the iPod set to manually update, and then you can play the songs directly from the iPod in iTunes.
