Hi all,

just taken delivery of a 120Gb external firewire drive for my powerbook. Disk utility (which I've never used) gives me the option to partition the drive.

It's not going to be used for anything except storage and my 40Gb itunes library.

Is there any reason to partition the drive into smaller sections? I don't think it's necessary, but wondered what you thought.

Thanks,

J.

Me, I wouldn't partition. Most people will tell you to partition, though, 'cause it can come in handy sometimes when you have problems with a single partition, saves you from formatting the entire drive. But really, unless you specifically want to put a system folder in there, there's no reason to partition...

You don't have to partition it. I would recommend partitions for -- say -- OS X and your data. It would be kinda useless for a backup drive.

If you are using OSX, I stronghtly recommend you set aside a small 20G partition and install another copy of the OS on it. This way, you will get a quick and easy way to repair you other disks or partitions without the easy to miss placed CD.
