Hi, I'm here looking for help...having printing trouble out of nowhere. I have my Epson hooked up to a KVMP switch, so I can use it on my Macs and PC. On my Mac I went to fax a word doc with FaxSTF, then the next day I couldn't print to the printer.
I try to select it in chooser, select the USB port and everything....nothing. Keeps giving the "[program] is unable to print...make sure a printer has been selected from the chooser" message. The first thing I did was reinstall the printer driver...nothing different, so it's not that. I also made sure there wasn't a hangup with the fax program...nothing. I tried unplugging/replugging usb cables everywhere...nothing. It will clean itself and print the results page from page Setup so I know it's not the connection. The other usb peripherals work so I don't think it could be the KVMP switch either. It will print on the PC so I doubt it's the printer itself. I'm thinking it's a problem with the Chooser, since no programs will let me print at all...despite going to the chooser and selecting the printer and port. I even tried using an older copy of the chooser from an earlier backup..nothing.

Any suggestions? Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

First suggestion is try the right forum!
Second, you might try extracting the Chooser from an OS 9 CD using TomeViewer. You can find TomeViewer at www.versiontracker.com. I looked for preference file for the Chooser but couldn't find one. Maybe someone here knows what the Chooser's preference file is called.

I would connect the printer directly to the mac then totally uninstall the driver and remove its preferences ... then reinstall the driver and print from a different app like mayb simpletext

I thought it would be nice to post a follow-up and thank everyone who tried to help me...I appreciate it! People here are great!
In the end it turned out the KVMP switch was preventing the original eject button from working, and also somehow messed up the mouse click upon startup. Solution was as simple as connecting the keyboard directly to the Mac and going with the mouse button method. However the pinhole-paperclip trick never did work. On everyone's advice I mapped the eject command to F12 and all is well!
mahalo!
