I plan on purchasing one, but can someone please tell me which would be better for me? I'm a graphics designer and i love more room to work on, but i heard that the 20" cinema has a brighter n sharper display than the 23" does, is this true? and how do you adjust the brightness and contrast on these things? I heard that some place online is selling the 23" for $1500 is this true? i hope the price drops on these, still too high...

The 23 is more for video, you don't really need it for graphics as the 20 is more then large enough. That is what I use at work and I do web and magazine layout all day.

The 20 is brighter and sharper at least that is what people say here.

You can't ajust the contrast but you can ajust the brighness the same way as any other monitor.

You want to leave the display on full bright though.

You can adjust the contrast in a way, open up ColorSync in your Utilities folder.

Other companys such a NEC and sony have nice monitors for less than what apple is sellin theres for. For graphics I am using a imac and not complaining hehe. So get something for half the cost or less cost becusae you are still gonna get the_same out come with ur projects. Why pay more becuse it says apple.

I'd question that. Apple's LCD's have always been of better build quality, and usually (until recently) one step ahead of everything else technologically. Plus, they look so damn good...

I have a 20" and have used other people's computers that have 23" displays and I would say just buy what you can afford and at the very least you will love the 20".

I say buy whichever you can afford...both screens are massive and you'll love either. The 23" HD Display WAS being sold for around ~$1,500 as an open-box special at MacMall, however they're all sold out now, so you'll be hard pressed to find even a refurb under ~$1,700.

Well it's like this,
If you went to an Apple Store and saw the 20" and the 23" side by side, you'd want the 20" because it does have a brighter sharper display. The 23" will look dimmer in comparison, even at full brightness.

That said if you didn't see them side by side and only saw the 23" you'd think it has a gorgeous display.

It's only when directly comparing it that you would care.

I got the 20" and it is fantastic. I have the brightness turned down a notch otherwise I get a headache. Check the screen before you buy, is what I would recommend, as dead pixels are an issue. On my third screen I was happy. The 2 before that had bright red and green dead pixels in the centre of the screen which is most annoying when working in photoshop on a black background.

I went to buy a 23" and left with a 20". Look at them side by side, adjust the hell out of the 23" but you won't be able to make it look anywhere as good as the 20".

I definitely agree that side-by-side the 20" is brighter and slightly sharper than the 23". However, size and resolution-wise there's no comparison. The 20" is roomy, the 23" is enormous. I went with the 23" and have never looked back. It looks fantastic and it's just everything I need for what I do. The brightness issue doesn't bother me in the least (as long as no one brings a 20" into my office, I guess). Really depends what you need and can afford. If you can afford either my feeling is that the 23" is the way to go.

Hey, I recently got the FORMAC Gallery 2010 and it is unbelievable. It is 21 inches, and has a native resolution of 1600 x 1200. Having seen both the Gallery and apple monitors I really recommend the formac. The price is 1099 compared to apple's 1300 dollar price tag--this is nice since you are getting an extra inch over apple. The only negative thing about the Formac display is that it has a limited amout of manual control other than the brightness. But I have found no problem with this as of yet. The Screen is also much more brighter than apples'. I would highly recommend checking out their site at: www.formac.com. I hope this helps.

I have to second that rec on the 2010. When I bought mine it was on display next to the 23inch Cinema HD and aside from size the 2010 really grabbed my attention. When this new kickass powermac comes out next week I'll get another 2010 with it.
