What is it?

See blurb here.

I'm tempted to buy a 1 GB card for backup on my TiBook (via PCMCIA). But my guess is I won't be able to make use of the extra speed.

What is the "standard mode" speed if "write acceleration" is not supported? It's cheaper to simply buy 16X or 24X media. And I wonder about the issue of compatibility.

WA needs to be suported by the camera and I don't think your G2 is.

"each Lexar Media card is
individually tested and guaranteed to perform at "At Least 3.6 MB/s." This is
referred to as The Minimum Sustained Write Speed."

Write Acceleration will give you a roughly 25% boost in writing speed to the card ASSUMING that your camera supports it. Right now, only Kodak, Nikon and one other camera brand supports it (Canon does not).

If your camera does not support WA, it will just drop back to the normal 40x speed (which is roughly 25% slower without WA).

This wouldn't be for my G2, but for my TiBook (so I can stop carrying around my 250 MB zip drive).

Where did you get the 3.6 MB/s number? That's only 24X. It sounds like from that site it's supposed to be 40X, plus a boost with WA (like sray said).

I think I'm going to get it regardless. The 1 GB standard Kingston is only 20 bucks less. Dunno the speed. They claim to have an auto-sleep mode to save power, but I'm assuming all of them do. Not sure though.
