The same german site that claims to have opened the new 970 boxes says that it comes with a optical 2 button mouse with scrollwheel. YEAH! Lets hope it's true.

They also claim the new machines are

2ghz
and 2.4ghz

Would that be awesome!

Sorry I thought everyone read AppleInsider, Here is the link to the forum at Apple insider. It has the translation as well as links to the german site:

http://forums.appleinsider.com/showt...threadid=26187
http://page2.macrumors.com/

Taktung:
2 GHZ Single und DualCore
Hypertrans BusSpeed: 500MHZ
oder 2,4 GHZ DualCore
Hypertrans BusSpeed: 600MHZ

Here is a bad translation:

There is no "G5" shown on the outer hull, just PowerMacintosh 970. The Computers are there is two versions. Grey plastic with Aluminium or white plastic with Aluminium. The grey version has got the grill optic (grey stripes), the white is completely white, no structure.
The Picture seen in here (where this was posted, --> the translator,MacCaine) is a fake, definitely.
The Machines are not shaped as seen on the picture, no grill-style air-intakes. But small holes on the top and bottom, rounded out on the front. Similar to the ones from the eMacs.
The Machines are rounded out to top-front side and to the front.
All have got Superdrives.
The sides are covered with Alu, the right cover can be opened to access the inside.
On top and bottom, the machine has got 2 polished steelparts.
The Slots for the drives are in a "box that can be pulled out!!!!!!" On this box is the Apple Logo and "Powermacintosh 970" It can be rotated 90 degr. If rotated you can use the machine as desktop or as tower. There is space for 5 drives - optical or HD.
on the frontside there are 1 FW 800 Port, Headphones, Mic, bluetooth logo, three apple typical buttons, and chromed speaker.
on the back are 1 FW 800, 1 FW 800, 2x USB, 1 USB 2.0, ethernet, ADC, DVI and four diagonal PCI Slots!!!!!, speaker connector, mic.
Size of hull.: 15cm x 65cm x 40cm

There is a new alu/white keyboard, optical 2 button mouse without cord, srollwheel made of alu, bluetooth.

The machine didīt start from a OsX 10.2.6 HD

Inside one CPU, cooler for two cores!!!!!!

the new Displays...!!!!!!! can be positioned exactly into small fittings on the left side of the hull, so that when it is used as a desktop, the display doesnīt slip away.

there was another reply to this sighting (at mactechnews.de). it translates like this:

---
ok, this guy must have a slight problem with guessing measurements. but otherwise the description is very accurate.

dimensions:
height:35/42,5 (without/with handles)
depth: 40
width: 17

name: PowerMac 970

clocking:
2 GHZ Single and DualCore
Hypertrans BusSpeed: 500MHZ
or 2,4 GHZ DualCore
Hypertrans BusSpeed: 600MHZ

Caches:
128KB level 0 oncore.
512KB level 1 onchip (Dualcore=2x512kb).

(DualCore=2 processor cores on one chip, but only available from september on)

then follows some blah-blah about the rotatable drive-drawer and how you can open the box in tower and desktop "mode". then ...

adc-2: communication with the display over usb or bluetooth

advanced keyboard 2: adjustable height, connectivity over usb or bluetooth

bluetooth connector: communication with devices (displays, keyboard, mice etc.) over bluetooth on a proprietary slot on the motherboard with a ball-shaped bulge on the front of the tower (also seen at displays and input devices).

os:
MacOS X 10.2.7 (ADC-2 enabled, ABTC (AAK2, AAM) enabled, Hypertransport enabled, 64 bit enabled)

I'm finding these rumors pretty hard to swallow. If not only for the claimed 2 & 2.4 Ghz Dual core chips. Last I heard the top 970 available was 1.8Ghz.

And IBM agree, this from the PDF below:

http://www-3.ibm.com/chips/techlib/t...70_MPF2002.pdf ~2Mb

Also worth a read if you're interested is this article (~300k) about the 970 targeting small servers and desktops (makes numerous references to Apple). Both those were from IBM Microelectronics

There are som claims that are strange first the CPU speed way above the goal of 1.8 of IBM. Even if it does not hurt to have a fast CPU any 970 above 1 GHz is much faster than the G4, so for Apple good supplies of 1.6 970 is far better than 2.4 GHz if it goes like the 500 MHz G4...

Secondly the Bluetooth and the display. I do not think that the Bluetooth or USB 2 etc is anyway near fast enough for streaming display data. It could be that the display has a reciver that comes handy if the tower is tucked away far away.

Thirdly the with of the tower. The actual metal plates on the front of the current tower is 15 cm. Making the tower so narrow that optical drives does not for or that PCI cards has to be slanted seems very stupid. The tower can sure be made more narrow than the current ones but to do them to narrow is plain stupid. I remember the 6100 were I had a full size nubus card. To intall it I had to move the HD to the CD bay, mount the nubus card in an adaptor and when I installed the contraption I had to bend the card (gently but firmly) to get it into the case.
The PCI standard is a 34 cm long card with a hight of 12.2 cm adding some clearance and case thickness, etc do get quite close to 15 cm but I assume for cooling in a worst case installation a bit of room might be needed

sooon we will know
