I bought a 30 gig iPod a couple months ago and am pretty happy with it, especially now that the latest software update means the between-tracks 'click' is gone.

However, I have been buying Apple accessories for the iPod and wanted to note something really, really irritating. Beyond irritating.

I use the iPod at work a lot and didn't want to ferrry the dock, proprietary cable and power block back and forth between home and work.

I purchased a second power block first. Last week I bought a new dock from the Apple online store. I was suprised to find that there was no cable with the dock...

This means, to have a complete second power/docking setup at work, I have to pay a total of $107-- 39 for the dock, 19 for the cable, and 49 for the power adaptor.

This is really unacceptable profiterring. Yeah, I know Apple exists to make money, and they do that by a 'all parts sold separately' atttitude, but this is not going to endear their customer base, or bring new customers to them.

this is what i called choice, my friend.

you could have just bought the cable, like i did, just to sync with the computer and charging it with the cable.

i have the original dock, cable and the power brick set up for my bedroom entertainment and alarm.

what you just did with the 2nd dock...etc, it is called luxury.

You can go out and buy a stripped down car or add option like sunroof, leather..etc. same concept.

different people have different need, your set up is great and i envy you, so you should not complain.

can you use the dock without the power cord? I ask this because the power may be only for charging purposes. If you can live without charging your iPod at work, and still get the other advantages of the dock, do that.

i do that with my PDA.

of course you can use it without the power adapter.

He's been posting this in apple's ipod support forum too.

I understand it would be nice if the dock includes the cable, but it was clearly stated that the dock and the cable are two separate things long before they start shipping. So it's not apple's fault that one assuming cable is included.
