Does anyone know if the Lacie 400 GB 7200 RPM hard drive has an Oxford 911 chipset in it?

I know it also has only a 2MB cache. Does this affect the performance for video editing?

I love the big drive but I don't think I should sacrifice possible dropped frames for size.

Thanks.

You'll be fine. Doing most video editing will be just beginning to tap the drive's speed.

(Heck, an old SCSI drive from 1997 with 1/4MB cache is fast enough for DV video!!)

Thanks, tooki!

Would you also happen to know if that hard drive has an oxford 911 chipset?

Nope. Especially since you didn't specify which LaCie model it is, seeing as how they have both FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 models! But I bet you can contact LaCie and find out.

That said, the chance that it's not an Oxford 911 is practically none. Unless it's a FW800 drive, in which case it'll be an Oxford 922.

FW400 version uses Oxford 911.

FW800 version uses Oxford 922, and also supports USB2.0.

The 500GB versions of LaCie's Big Disk have 2x 250GB 8MB cache drives, so you may want to call this 16MB of cache(grin); the 400GB has 2x 200GB 2MB cache drives.
