I posted this below in the other iSight thread but I thought I might start a more specific one about my problems:

My local Apple Store has a bunch of the iSights in stock and I picked one up. It seems to play a pretty good video frame-rate but it seems to get a nasty deep blue hue. It is a gorgeous piece of hardware (think Al Powerbook) but it seems to get really hot. It may be defective so I think I'll go exchange it.

I tried iChat 2.0 and my DV camcorder over firewire with a buddy of mine 100 miles away (with a DV camcorder as well) and it worked fine with great video quality.

My question is does anyone else have an iSight that gets hot (is this normal)? And any problems with the camera trying to "enhance" the image and creating blue images?

I just picked up an iSight too. I love it. It is a hot little sucker though isn't it? Fortunately, I didn't mount it on my body, so I'm not too worried about it. I actually think it's fine.

In iChat AV, if there were color adjustments, I'd prolly push the red a bit, and pull the green just a tad. I played around with it in QT broadcaster and was able to get an image more to my liking. But still I'm very happy with the image even in iChat.

I'm not having the heat issue. And I've used 2 different ones for extended periods today.

Mine doesn't get hot. It does get a little warm but nothing close to the pad on the 867 Powerbook. I mean I can barley feel heat coming from it.

Yeah, see my post in this thread for a comparison of iSight images (default image settings and corrected image settings using EvoCam):

I hope Apple adds the ability to adjust the video in the final version of iChat AV. Looking at my iSight images in the thread above, you can see the remarkable difference a few settings can make (brightness, color hue, warmth, etc).

Post iChat AV feedback!

How did it come to this? Goodbye PowerPC. | sensory output
