I'm considering either the 20" or 23" cinema displays and will need to calibrate for color. I've been to both Nikon Advanced digital workflow and Epson Print academy. Four of the 5 pros that talked about monitors spoke positively of the cinema displays and calibrating with either gretag mcbeth or opticalw/spyder. The 5th said that an lcd was not the way to go but one of his images included his work space and guess what monitor was on his desk? The 23".

So what have your experiences been like. I am leaning towards gretag macbeth simply because I have the option to upgrade from the i-1 display package if I need to.

Incidently, how big of an issue are dead pixels on either the 20" or 23"? If I get one I will probably go to an Apple store to see it before putting my money down. If I do that how does one look for dead pixels?

Now the real question - do I go for the 20" or 23"????

thanks

The one to go for probably depends on what you want to do with it. There's no way you can get the 20" to have the resolution of the 23", but then again there's also no way to get the 23" to have the lovely whites of the 20"

I got a 20" and am thrilled with it. I do a fair bit of photography work on it and it works a treat.

Sorry I can't directly answer your question as I have a 22" Cinema display. However, I can report that it does calibrate wonderfully with the Optical Spyder and I use it heavily for digital wedding photography.

If you use photoshop, you will find that you can never have enough screen real estate ... more is always better. Whether you get a 20" + 15" dual setup or a single 23" is kinda up to.
